bjgaddour Looking to increase your vertical jump? Studies show that the push press is one of the best moves to do just that- and it will build up your entire shoulder girdle too! Push Presses combine an overhead press with a quick hip dip (or a quarter squat) to drive the bar overhead with maximum speed. Because your lower body really drives the whole movement you can use 20-30% greater loads or more than a standard, strict overhead press. Push Presses have a great carryover to sports like basketball and volleyball that require lots of jumping with a very upright torso. Focus on keeping your abs crunched and pushing your knees out as you initiate the movement. To build serious lower body power, use sets of 3-5 reps with 2-3 minutes of rest between sets. If you want to use this move for cardio conditioning and a metabolic effect, you can employ sets of 10+ reps or use work periods of 30-60 seconds with lighter loads.
