tmawoods I love the Spirit Tree. It reminds me of all the growth and strength of one community. Having been gone for three of the last four years, I've primarily been able to watch Joplin rebuild from the outside. It's been amazing to watch the community come together strong, not only in the first year, but in recent years as well. #hopeforjoplin #joplintornado #fouryears #joplin 11h

derrickforsythe Hard to believe it's been four years ago today since the tornado struck Joplin and sent us into action. I will never forget sitting at the fire station that night with Scott Weir, listening to Joplin FD calls of distress. We grew so much from that experience and gained some amazing friends. It's fascinating how the tragedies in life can bring so much good over the long term. There are a lot of amazing people out there, like "Huge Guy," "Old Guy," and the "Chicks from Kirksville." And can't forget Christian Wenzel putting on the mascot head and giving out free hugs. #goodtimes #godswork #joplintornado 15h

fallouttmg #joplintornado it's been 4 years since this happened and we still barely have any trees at all in Joplin. They're all gone. I miss how it used to be. We've made it this far without many bad tornadoes this season. Let's pray for it to stay that way. #may22joplin #tornado #4years #stjohnshospital #may222011 18h

satcomwitty 4 years ago today an EF-5 tornado ravaged to town of Joplin Missouri. Within an hour of the tornado tearing through town, I was dispatched to Joplin to cover the story for CBS news. The sights, sounds, and smells I experienced in the hours and days that followed are something I will carry with me the rest of my life. In 2012, on the 1 year anniversary of the tornado, I was asked by my co-workers to write a blog post about my experiences – it can be read here: http://www.kaufmanbroadcast.com/the-joplin-tornado-from-my-perspective
Last June I had the opportunity to return to the Joplin area and revisit some of the areas where I was setup back in 2011. The damaged homes are gone, the cars that littered the streets and parking lots have been cleaned up, but the scars still remain. The trees that once provided ample shade have been reduced to stumps. The obliterated hospital that that stood in the background of most TV network reports is now just an open field. A memorial fountain was erected in the park across the street from where the hospital once stood. On a plaque are the names of the 162 people that lost their lives that day. Mother nature’s fury is a powerful force. #Joplin #joplintornado #nature #tornado #memories

gc_oem Today marks four years since a devastating EF-5 tornado tore through Joplin, MO. We celebrate the resiliency and resolve of the incredible people of Joplin as they continue to rebuild. #joplintornado 22h
  •   ozarksblood As we pause to remember, we're so thankful for our many donors who came forward immediately that day to make sure that we, as the sole supplier to our local hospitals, had everything we needed to keep the hospitals going. <3 21h

tmawoods It has been four years, but the memories are as clear as yesterday. There are some things you will never forget-the sights, the sounds, the families, the debris, the color of the sky, the eerie-ness of the air. Remembering how 5:41 changed so many lives on this day. #hopeforjoplin #joplintornado #joplin 22h

joelgirdner_kcrg Four years ago today an EF5 tornado touched down in Joplin, MO. 158 dead, over 1100 injured, and $2.8 billion in damages. This is what remained of a dumpster, taken two days later as I waited for a news conference to begin. At the time I worked for a local news affiliate in Springfield, MO. The next three months of work were spent almost exclusively in the southwest Missouri city. #joplinmo #joplintornado #joplin #tornado #weather #flashbackfriday #EF5 23h
