authordiannedlc Today's #DailyOrganizing project: Underneath the kitchen sink. I forgot to take a before picture but the space just needed a "facelift." All the organization systems were in place. It just needed tidying. #organizing #Organization #organizedhome #OrganizedLife #OrganizingDiva #OrganizingNerd #igersneworleans #igersofneworleans #NOLALocalAuthor #jj 6h

authordiannedlc Here is my DAILY VIP. I have 365 names in the jar, of people who touched my life in some way. Each day, for a year, I pull a random name and write about that person. You might be next! I want to show everyone that even incidental positive contact can change a life for the better.

Delores Onate-Karaffa

I met Delores through Kid Chef Eliana's connection with her husband, Chef Sean M Karaffa. Sean was on Kid Chef Eliana's radio show, Cool Kids Cook. In 2013, Eliana did a cooking demo at the American Library Association conference and Delores and Sean came to see her, and then they took us to dinner.
We all became friends and the following year, we were in Chicago for the United Fresh conference. We were invited to their house for dinner in the suburbs of Chicago. We met Delores at the law firm she's been working at for many years, in a Chicago high rise overlooking Lake Michigan, and then we took a train to their house. Eliana cooked with Chef Sean and I got to know Delores better.

Delores is funny, smart, and very kind. She is always so supportive of Eliana and always commenting on Eliana's posts. The Karaffas have become dear friends and I cherish Delores. Sean is one lucky guy!
So today, I salute Delores Onate-Karaffa, a Very Important Person to me, to Kid Chef Eliana, to Chef Sean and their son David, to her family and friends, and to people at her place of employment who think she is invaluable. I toast you, Delores! XOXOXO #DailyVIP #VeryImportantPerson #VeryInspirationalPerson #igersneworleans #igersofneworleans #NOLALocalAuthor

Liz Reyes
I met Liz many years ago when, as a former reporter for WGNO, she did a story on my publisher and I was part of the piece. We hit it off and became friends.

Liz's career took her to WVUE Fox8 in New Orleans. Liz is the noon anchor at Fox8, reporting hard-hitting national, regional, and local news as well as human interest stories. She stayed in New Orleans to report on Hurricane Katrina until it became too dangerous to do so and she was ordered to evacuate. She has even flown into the eye of Hurricane Charley. Liz often produces her own stories, working behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera. She's traveled all over the world covering huge news stories and even interviewed infamous people like O.J. Simpson and Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as pop icon celebrities like Madonna. Thousands of people tune in every day to see Liz's beautiful face on their television screen. She has a huge, loyal following of devoted fans.

Liz is not just a "talking head" on the screen. She really knows the current events and is one of the smartest women I know. She is also kind and gives of her time and knowledge to several local charities including Dress for Success. Liz always greets you with a warm smile and a hug no matter how her day has been. Kid Chef Eliana and I love working with Liz. She is the consummate professional and one of the most personable people I know. Every day, she makes a difference with her work.

So today, I salute Liz Reyes, a Very Important Person to me, @kidchefeliana her family, and the thousands of viewers who count on her to deliver their daily news. I light a candle for you, Liz! authordiannedlc Made some Pinterest-inspired homemade laundry detergent. It was super easy. It has Purex, Borax, Zote, and OxiClean. Tested it and my blankets came out soft but not as perfumed as regular detergents. It's supposed to last about a year. You use only a couple of tablespoons per load. #DIY #Homemade #Laundry #igersneworleans #igersofneworleans #NOLALocalAuthor 1d

Eric Kimmel

Eric and I have been friends for many years. I consider him one of my best buddies and the kids in the kidlit world. Eric earned my respect long ago when, as a storyteller (before I had books), I asked him for permission to retell one of his stories and he said yes! He is such a generous soul, always giving of himself to others.

Eric is one of those stars in children's literature who's body of work is so impressive (over 150 books) that he's legendary. I have seen him present programs and workshops to mesmerized children, parents, and librarians. His books are beloved around the world.

Our friendship evolved from him being a professional colleague, to being a mentor, and then to finally being a very close friend. When I see him at conferences, we spend time together, and whenever he is in New Orleans, we always get together like we did recently, in November. When Eric and I are in the same room, there is always tons of laughter and lots of stories! Eric is not very good at texting LOL but he is a fantastic conversationalist and I can always pick up the phone and call him to bend his ear. He has been a steadfast friend and advisor, and I cherish him.
Eric is a caring husband; a loyal friend, and an inspiring man. His legacy extends beyond his books. Ask anyone who knows him. They will tell you what a remarkable guy he is. Eric is good people, a man who always leaves a place better than he found it.

So today, I toast Eric Kimmel, a Very Important Person to me, to his wife, Dolores, to his family and friends, and to the multitude of children, parents, teachers, and librarians, who have been touched by his beautiful books. I light a candle for my dear, dear friend, Eric Kimmel! I heart you! #DailyVIP #VeryImportantPerson #VeryInspirationalPerson #NOLALocalAuthor #igersneworleans #igersofneworleans #jj #authors #kidlit
