rokelly The West Belfast Murals have become symbols of Northern Ireland, depicting the region's past and present political and religious divisions. Clockwise from top left:

Bobby Sands - was a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army who died on hunger strike while imprisoned at HM Prison Maze.

William of Orange - Sovereign Prince of Orange from birth, Stadtholder of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht,Gelderland, and Overijssel in the Dutch Republic and King of England,Ireland, and Scotland from 1689 until his death. He is informally and affectionately known by sections of the Protestant population in Northern Ireland and Scotland as "King Billy". Ulster Defense Force, Ulster Freedom Fighter and Ulster Defense Association members

Stephen McKeag - Nicknamed "Top Gun", he was a Northern Irish loyalist and a Commander of the Ulster Defence Association's (UDA) 'C' Company in the 1990s. The RUC (local police force) estimated that McKeag was responsible for at least 12 Catholic killings, although the figure was placed higher by a number of his former paramilitary associates.
