Whilst wandering down the narrow streets of Amsterdam you may notice many buildings tilted forward or on an angle. There are two reasons for this. One, the homes tilted forward are mainly converted warehouses where items would be hoisted to different floors. They were built like this to prevent the items from damaging the building on the way up or down.
The second reason is because the city of Amsterdam was built on water (receiving it's nickname, Venice of the north), meaning that some of the foundations have weakened over time.
