horseracingkills IS THE PARTY REALLY WORTH IT?

You asked - and we delivered. The billboard is back but this time it will be making it's way ALL over Melbourne.

The racing industry wanted to hide our 22 metre long Citylink billboard showing a horse who snapped his neck in a jumps race, so we are taking it straight to them today at the Cox Plate.

While they will continue to describe it as 'offensive' and 'distasteful', we will continue to highlight the offensive and distasteful practices of the Australian racing industry - such as jumps racing, the whip, 2 YO racing and the slaughter of failed and former racehorses known as 'wastage'. If the racing industry doesn't want us to bring their dead horses to them, then they should take the relevant steps for these amazing equine athletes to prevent them from being killed in the first place. With 125 odd horses dying on Australian racetracks every year (one horse every 2.9 days) and the slaughter of thousands of healthy racehorses when no longer useful - it really is time that practices changed.

Join us (and the billboard) today at the Cox Plate to speak out for racehorses: http://bit.ly/CoxPlate2014

If you can't be there, like and share to show your support and take action here: http://bit.ly/IsThePartyReallyWorthIt #HorseRacingKills

horseracingkills We've been asking the same question a lot lately: Is the party really worth it?
When those parties involve the public beatings of horses to get them over the finish line first, the racing of young horses on underdeveloped joints or supporting an industry that puts horses over obstacles at high speed causing them to fall and break their necks or a 'sport' that sees many of it's athletes become dog food - the answer is no. ....But when those parties are raising funds to stop this cruelty - the answer is yes!

Find out how you can celebrate (without supporting cruelty) and help animals at the same time with our guide to being kind this Spring Carnival: http://www.horseracingkills.com/cruelty-free-spring-carnival-alternatives/ #HorseRacingKills

horseracingkills If you've decided that this year that the party isn't worth it, then come along and join us at our annual Nup to the Cup picnic on Melbourne Cup Day next to the racecourse.

The day is much more picnic than protest, in fact it isn't even protest at all. We just set up our signs around the park and enjoy the day like everybody else.

There will be cruelty free food and drinks available. So come along and bring your family and friends (the furry variety are welcome too). More info & RSVP: http://bit.ly/NuptotheCup2014

If you're still trying to work out whether the party is worth it, take some time to consider that a 4 YO gelding named Throw The King was killed yesterday while racing at Cranbourne. He began racing at just 2 years old. The racing of horses on underdeveloped joints is one of CPR's welfare concerns and something we'd like to see changed within the industry. horseracingkills Our 22 metre long billboard featuring a photo we took of a dead jumps horse, right in front of a pro-racing billboard on one Victoria's busiest roads may have only last 5 days, but it sure has people talking.
With almost 50 pieces of published, tv and radio media in such a small period of time, it's safe to say that there probably isn't many Australians that haven't yet seen or heard of this confronting campaign.
Pictured is a quote from one of our favourite articles that went to print yesterday. People are watching, people are listening and more important - people are disgusted at the way racehorses are being treated, and they are doing something about it.

This isn't over yet. We have more to come. Take action at horseracingkills.com/is-the-party-really-worth-it #IsThePartyReallyWorthIt #HorseRacingKills

horseracingkills The racing industry yesterday had our controversial billboard featuring a dead horse removed.
We received an email notifying us of morning removal at 10.45 pm the night before and it was taken down the next day. This just shows how low the racing industry will stoop to silence the fact that they recklessly and needlessly kill horses. The horse featured on the billboard was killed by them, not us.
We urgently need you donate to our fighting fund to launch another public awareness campaign about the reality of what happens to racehorses. We won’t let the racing industry kill horses and try to cover it up.
http://www.horseracingkills.com/donate/

If you’re considering attending the Spring Carnival this year, think whether this is an industry you would like to support – one that breeds, races and discards horses without regard for their welfare, and then tries to shut down public debate on the issue.

We will be taking this further. In meantime - MAINTAIN THE RAGE. Take action against racehorse cruelty at www.horseracingkills.com/is-the-party-really-worth-it #HorseRacingKills

horseracingkills We know this is the last thing you want to see, and we know you already know what many racehorses have to endure. But unfortunately, many still do not.

We've just released another undercover knackery investigation. It is harrowing and it is hard to watch - and if you know, you don't have to - but we need you to spread the word for the horses.

  •   kierstenduke People like you actually make me laugh! You know absolutely nothing about the horse racing industry, I work in it and the care and attention these horses get are fit for royalty. If we didn't care about these animals why would we spend millions of pounds on them, ensuring they have the top vets, dentists, farriers, feed, bedding and environment. An injured race horse never gets put down if it's injury can be healed. I work on a rehabilitation yard that has the best facilities for these horses, we have a spa, treadmill and swimming pool to aid these horses recovery. If we didn't care about these horses why would spend so much time and money on them? So many times I have gone hungry because I'm feeding the horses before I feed myself, so many times I have worked 16 hour days just to ensure the horses are getting the attention they need. Anything else you think we do is cruel? Bring it on because these horses are treated better than the people that look after them, they're like royalty! So before you go campaigning and accusing people of being cruel get your facts right! 3w
  •   ard_sionnach @kierstenduke .. I've met people like you, yes you give your TB's best possible start in life and so on while they are winning, at the end of the day, little bit costly to keep when they aren't earning their keep, this is no hate to you it's what happens over here aswell, 2yr olds are racing on the flat over here .. personally I don't agree with it ... sadly it's the racing industry maybe you keep your horses forever but most of them end up in the factory as youngsters, I'm sure you know this though.. 2w
  •   min_x_yb @kierstenduke shame on you for supporting this barbaric act. If you truly loved horses you would not be involved in this industry. 1w
  •   aladdinpony_ @kierstenduke what about the horses mental needs? 1w

horseracingkills IS THE PARTY REALLY WORTH IT? That's what thousands of people will be asking themselves every day when they drive over Citylink and see our 22 metre billboard. But this is just the beginning - we will be releasing graphic, never-before-seen footage tonight.
The Spring Carnival is fast approaching and we're calling on punters and race-goers to use "people power" to change the lives of racehorses.
The racing industry has rejected our proposal to retire racehorses humanely, has allowed jumps racing to continue when it said the sport would end, allows under-developed horses to race and thinks it's OK to beat a horse an unlimited number of times towards the end of a race.
THINGS MUST CHANGE AND WE ARE MAKING IT HAPPEN. Join in the campaign to improve the lives of racehorses and urge people to ask themselves, "Is the party really worth it?" http://www.horseracingkills.com/features/is-the-party-really-worth-it/ #HorseRacingKills #IsThePartyReallyWorthIt

  •   thetreekisser SO BADASS 3w
  •   kateellen all power to you @horseracingkills and your supporters this racing season. I'm the only person at my workplace who doesn't wish to partake in Melb Cup 'festivities' and I keep my opinions to myself unless someone asks. The undertones that I'm some sort of killjoy are quite interesting. Unfortunately I work with children too, so it's quite ironic that I'm the one looked down upon for not supporting gambling and a 'sport' that's harmful to animals. 3w

  •   avk76 I just read on Mumbrella's Facebook that this billboard is being removed @horseracingkills. Absolute stupidity that people are offended by this image but not offended by the damage that horse racing does to these beautiful animals. 2w
