muscle_and_thickness A little clip from yesterday coaching Nor Cal regionals athlete @dustysulon through a heavy single in the back squat. Let's go over a few of the good and bad from the video
GOOD
1) Not using a shirt. Removing outer garments increases testosterone count by over 15% which is beneficial for attempting heavy singles
2) BELTS. The athlete requested to use one belt, but I usually recommend no less than 5 to really help lock in the entire vertebral column. We do not want to risk injury. I prefer Velcro.
3) Regular shoes. Weightlifting shoes are a myth and will not help your lifts whatsoever. All the Olympic athletes wear them because they are on steroids.

BAD)
1) STRAIGHT BACK. His back is a little more aligned than I'd like, I'd like to see a little more rounding in the back throughout the lift.
2) KNEE SLEEVES. To be honest, I'm not sure how both his ACL's did not severe in half in the bottom position. Normally I prescribe a knee sleeve with a knee wrap and an extra roll of bubble wrap on top of that.
3) PRE WORKOUT. None was consumed prior to the session. I'm not certain how he did not pass out after his second set. Overall I'm very satisfied with this lifters progress and I think he will be ready for Regionals next year. #GoingHAM #HAMsandwhich #HAMburgerhelper #blueberries
