ferret_farm This is Rumpel, top 2 pictures were taken several weeks after I got him and bottom two pictures about 4 months later. When he first arrived he was missing hair on his whole body and had almost no hair on his tail. He had hard times walking around and slept all the time. But he is a new man now! His hair is thicker than any other ferret's that I have cared for. He runs and plays for two hours without a stop even though he is a senior ferret citizen:). Yes, his treatment is expensive, but it is a very small price to pay to save someone's life.
Don't give up on your ferret, if he or she gets sick. Get them to a vet. Get help for them. We are responsible, forever, for what we have tamed.
Don't put down a ferret who can have many more happy years of life, and don't leave them to die a slow and painful death.
P.S. It's Charlotte's head and Rumpel's tail in bottom left corner. I didn't want to make Rumpel pose for this, so I looked at old pictures and that was the only one where you can see his tail well.

  •   evadagoo Thank you I will put an update on what it was u been great 5h
  •   n.deann @evadagoo sorry for the late reply.it's only 7.45 am here right now lol. As @ferret_farm said it could be a few things but adrenal is very uncommon that young, usually more around the 3 yr mark. That's not to say its impossible, just unlikely right now. If you're in the US I've heard some people ferrets have started shedding for winter early this year which can produce bald or thin patches while they grow their next coat 3h
  •   ferret_farm @n.deann no offense to ferret owners, but I know several people with 10+ years of ferret experience and their ferrets never miss hair. I think maybe rat tail could be affected by diet and lifestyle. 2h
  •   n.deann @ferret_farm blackheads (so missing tail fur with black dots), depending on where your reading either has no known cause or is caused by a build up of excess oil and dirt from shedding costs. The oils and dirt block the pores (blackheads) which stop the fur from grown back, much the same as blackheads in humans . What I was referring to in my last comment was just a hard shedding of coat though, some ferrets shed their old coat really quickly leaving them a little spares in the fur department till the new one grows lol 2h
  •   n.deann @ferret_farm of course there are a lot of reasons why a ferret may loose fur including ones you've mentioned but blackheads are an actual thing with no health or diet links as the cause 2h
  •   evadagoo I have two and they both sisters and only one got it the other one is fine that's why I got really worried thank you for all the advice will put an update once been to vet on Thursday but that is very helpful 2h
  •   n.deann @evadagoo I went through the same thing last year with Meeka's first summer shed lol. Started losing tail fur and the skin didn't look right so to the vets we go. Vet was hopeless, told me about adrenal disease, never called me back about a ultrasound to check her glands, gave me antibiotics for some reason and not enough to cover the time period/dosages she told me. Get home, post on Facebook (can't remember if it was HFF or Ferret Love) and find out it's just blackheads! A couple of weeks of tail washing they disappeared and then maybe 1-1.5 months for the fur to grow back . Hopefully it's a similar thing for your little girl and all is well 2h
