harperjsimon One of the new paintings I liked. Ed is still so prolific at age 89. #EdMoses #California #FerusGallery 1w

lamodernauctions Ken Price biomorphic sculpture — “Up Back” (2000) — goes to auction this fall. Similar to sculptures shown in the retrospective at @lacma, this work exhibits Price’s desire that color itself is the medium and his laborious technique resulting in these lavishly multi-hued shapes.

Peter Loughrey, Director of Modern Design & Fine Art:
On the market for the first time, this work is a stunning example of Price’s amorphous sculpture because it looks so distinctly different when viewed from various angles. Price liked popular culture and cartoons. From one side, the bulbous shape brings to mind Matt Groening’s animated show #Futurama and the character Dr. John A. Zoidberg, while from another, I see Jabba the Hutt from #StarWars. Coincidentally, #MattGroening was equally influenced by fine art. Futurama first aired in 1999. Perhaps this is a case of “life imitating art imitating life.” #kenprice #kenpricesculpture #lacma #laartist #ferusgallery #coolschoolartist #contemporaryceramic

gregmorris3 Ed Ruscha colored pencil on paper 1963. At 4x6 inches this is a little gem from a modern master. Crazy to think Ed had the forethought to preserve his early works so well. Just one of my favorite artist. #edruscha #ferusgallery #master #1963

lapis_press Happy Birthday #AndyWarhol!! #TBT Los Angeles July 1962. Andy's first solo exhibition. This show was the first time the world saw the #Campbell’sSoupCans at #FerusGallery, a stones-throw from #TheLapisPress. Thanks to #IrvingBlum for believing. The world of prints and editions would not be the same without Andy's contributions.

Normal Los Angeles Modern Auctions
lamodernauctions #MakeYourMarkMonday -- The locus of the avant-garde in the 1960s Los Angeles art scene could be found in the "clean white cube" occupying a small storefront on La Cienega Boulevard: the Ferus Gallery. #EdMoses, one of the #CoolSchool artists, had his first solo show at Ferus in 1958, and has been a significant figure in contemporary art in Los Angeles ever since. This label is affixed to the back of a graphite work Moses created in 1965 as an ode to his wife Avilda. #ferusgallery #lamodernauctions 1mon

sesrock #edruscha #edwardruscha #kohngallery #michaelkohn #michaelkohngallery #ferus #ferusgallery To me, this painting was the most impactful work in the Kohn show. "I reject the kind of art which self-consciously attaches itself to history. I'm not abstaining ... I simply can't relate to it. The longer I am at it, the less I want to look at my work historically. I view my art output as a simple variation on a theme. It was a theme that was established for me early on, all I do is watch it unfold as I go." Ed Ruscha 2mon

jimnewberry Earlier this month I visited artist Ed Moses at his Venice, L.A. studio, to photograph him for the @KPCC-produced show The Frame. What at treat to meet and photograph him, see his workspace, and then to watch him at work painting with watercolors. You can here the interview by John Horn, and also see a slideshow of images I shot on the KPCC site: http://bit.ly/1LUpDZ6

There is a retrospective of Moses's work currently installed at @LACMA, up through August 2nd.
