inthegamept Practicing the landing portion of a depth jump with focus on good technique and biomechanics. She tends to shift her weight onto her right leg since it is the stronger side. We're trying to get her to land evenly, keeping her knees from collapsing in, and absorbing the force of the landing by getting good knee flexion beyond 30 degrees.
Research has shown that the ACL has the most forces on it when the knee is flexed 20-30 degrees. Unsurprisingly, most female athletes land, decelerate, cut, and change position from a more upright position with their knees right around 20 degrees of flexion. We need to train athletes to absorb forces through a more flexed position so less force is put through the ligaments!

yieldfitness There's more than one way to pull an object off the ground. Here I am loding the opposite side hip from the top down to ellicit a triplane load in the left hip through internal rotation, adduction and flexion. This not only helps me to fully engage the posterior chain it also allows me to econcentrically load the opposite side latissimus dorsi and scapular region as I then explode out of that first transformational zone to an overhead press. Assessing the lower half of the structure, hips down, this is a fairly easy way to look at a lack of internal hip rotation or lack thereof as well as ability to evert and invert the feet in extremely athletic people. Since it is very dynamic, fun and challenging they typically stop trying to be perfect and deviations come out! Just add a big load they feel good about and let them rock away!
In this video you can see my right foot naturally everts & knee abducts as I go down to find the ground followed by the hip then exploding with my lat pulling the kettlebell off the ground along with other musculature, my foot then inverts. If my foot was locked up you may not see any of this. If I checked both hips with this motion you may see a cleaner squat to the left than to the right, as it actually is in my case, because my right hip lacks internal rotation. There are tests to find weaknesses and strategies that go with those results to those tests that make an athlete and movement better. Without the test or knowledge of what you are looking for there is a huge price of the puzzle missing.

I was around 16 years old here, back when I used to compete in Athletics, throwing the Discus for Sussex, Surrey,and England.

50 metre thrower before ACL tear when was 18.
