How many meals a day do you have?

You should strive to eat 5 times a day- which includes 3 meals & 2 snacks that have the proper balance of protein, carbs, and fats. It has been proven that eating 3 meals and 2 snacks every 2-3 hours helps maximize your body’s fat-burning abilities. Research also shows that lowering your sugar and carbohydrate intake can decrease your fat stores. When you go through periods of more then 3 hours without food, you can actually increase your fat stores and slow your metabolism.

About a little over a year ago I could tell you that this was so difficult for me to eat 5 times day. I hated breakfast even though I knew how important it was for me and I hated snacking. My day would look like this...coffee in the morning, big lunch because I was so hungry from not eating breakfast, big dinner because again I didn't have anything in between lunch and dinner, and lastly I would just snack on candy, cookies, or ice cream after dinner.
I decided that something needed to change because I was working out hard but didn't care about what I was putting in my body and nothing was changing. So I cleaned up my diet and started eating 5 meals a day. Now I look back and see what a huge difference it has made physically and mentally. My body has change and I feel good about myself. I have learned so much about nutrition and continually do...

The famous "Hamstring stretch"

About 99% of the people I see trying to perform a Hip Hinge (aka hamstring stretch), usually do it wrong, performing the "stretch" like the picture and video in the upper half of the image! You might not see much wrong with the video, but if you break it down and analyze whats occurring, you will notice how bad the back in rounding in order to get to the toes! These are the vertebraes of the spine pulling away their posterior component from one another, inevitably stretching the erector spinae, multifidus and the rest of the back musculature rather than the hamstrings. Moving that way in fact limits the stretch you are trying to apply to the hamstring and mainly stretches the back! Which is not the intended target!
Picture and video in the bottom shows the proper way to perform a Hip Hinge! There you will see that the hip hinge is perform by maintaining a neutral spine and hinging at the hip! Keeping the knees unlocked and maintaining the back with no change in angle/roundness of the spine.
A Hip Hinge is one of the few fundamental movement that should be performed in daily life. If you struggle with this find ways to incorporate it into daily routine such as when picking things off the ground.

fitnessartisttraining Its time for a trainer tip! This week it comes from FA trainer Christina Brown - "Let's talk about full spectrum training! When your goal is general physical preparedness you should be training for strength, endurance, flexibility and in some cases power. Just focusing on one type of training can lead to injury and stall your progress. Balance can also keep training interesting and should always be based on your specific goals and body! Use your strengths but also lessen your weaknesses!" #healthtips #fitness #FitnessArtist #strengthtraining #fitnesstips #exercise #exercisetips #fit #personaltraining #personaltrainer #saratogasprings #cliftonpark #loudonville 2d
