eatingtheworldinpdx Queen of Sheba
2413 NE MLK Jr Blvd
$37.38 (including tip)
JWN:

Food: Alicha Tibs (beef sautéed with aromatics) and Shiro Wet (chickpea flour made into paste)

While the pungent smell walking into Queen of Sheba wasn’t a pleasant starting point, the food and experience made it all together worth it. The highlight for the meal for me was the Injera (flatbread used in place of silver wear). While fairly acidic, the primal experience of using your hands to eat all of your food was refreshing and helped me to engage with a new cultural experience.

Food: 7/10 Experience 8/10

MKN:

Food: Atakilt Alicha (sautéed vegetables with potatoes, carrots and green beans in aromatic spices), Misr Bamia Wet (lentil and okra stew) and Tsebbi Kintti-Shar (mushroom stew). While the lentil/okra and mushroom stews were very spicy to me, the flavors were pleasant and complex. Make sure you have a thyme iced tea or a cold amber ale to sip on if tasting one of these sides. The vegetable dish was delicate and savory, making a good match for the hotter selections. Sharing one large platter with my partner felt intimate and fun. Our server was busy with a full room of tables, but she took care to make sure our needs were met.

Food: 8/10 Experience 8/10
