rluvesscience #sciencefacts #biology #anatomy #anatomyandphysiology #humanbody #tissues #epithelial - You have about 200 different types of cells in your body. Cells that cover internal or external structures form epithelial tissue. Characteristics of epithelial tissue are cells that are closely bound together, an apical surface, a basement membrane, avascular, and continuous replacement or regeneration of lost and damaged surface cells. Epithelia protects exposed and internal surfaces from damage by physical abrasion, dehydration, infection, and by chemicals. ~ Glands/organs that produce secretionsare made of epithelial cells. Overall, their are two types of epithelial that are classified by shape ️ and whether they form layers > simple epithelium️ & stratified epithelium. --- Connective tissues are distributed throughout the body, never exposed to the outside 🌳 environment, and have a diverse set of functions and properties. They are made of a mixture of different types of cells and protein fibers. Connective tissues support and protect other tissues, transport materials throughout the body, store energy as fat reserves, and provide defense against microorganisms. Loose connective tissue are the "packing materials" of the body, filling in spaces to provide cushioning and support. Adipose tissue is a collection of fat cells (aka adipocytes) which provides padding, shock absorption, and thermal insulation. (Ex.'s breasts, bottom layer of skin). Areolar tissue is elastic and has an extensive blood supply. This type of tissue has enough collagen and elastin to be strong and enough ground substance to moveindependently. (Ex.'s between the skin & muscle). Reticular tissue is a network of protein fibers that holds other cells in place, such as white ️ and red blood cells. (Ex.'s spleen, liver, bone marrow, lymph nodes). Dense connective tissueconsists mostly of collagen fibers, with fewer cells and less ground matter. Cartilage is a firm gel containing protein fibers and a type of cell called chondrocytes. Chondrocytes are found in lacunae & have no blood supply. > Hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage, fibrocartilage, etc. 3w
  •   rluvesscience You also have fluid connective tissue such as blood and lymph > that helps to transport oxygen, CO2, nutrients, and wastes throughout the body. 3w
  •   rluvesscience Muscle tissue (cardiac, skeletal, smooth). --- See an earlier post for details about......Nervous tissue is specialized for the conduction of electrical impulses. (Ex. brain and spinal cord) 3w

auranadya.xo • Pores of the epidermis are comprised of sudoriferous (sweat) and sebaceous (oil) glands. Together they keep the skin healthy and elastic. • The epithelial barrier, which is known as the acid mantle, is responsible for keeping in lipids and moisture while blocking impurities and bacteria. To work sufficiently, the acid mantle must be at a 5.5 pH. • Using the correct cleansers and toners is a very important component to healthy skin. Having knowledge of ingredients help.
