Today’s Topic: 5 Tips to Avoid Overeating on Thanksgiving

Did you know that the average adult consumes roughly 3,000 calories on Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a day filled with food, love, family, football, & traditions. For others, it may be causing a little anxiety because they don’t want to ‘ruin’ all their progress they have made in their fitness journeys’. When you follow a #balancedintake approach you can enjoy all your favorite holiday foods and still reach your fitness goals. Here are some tips to help you not overeat on Thursday, but to truly enjoy time spent with family and loved ones.
1. Plan on having light meals throughout the day. This will keep you satisfied throughout the day so you don’t go into your Thanksgiving meal starving.
2. When making your plate choose foods you truly enjoy and will satisfy your cravings.
3. If possible, do not set food around the table. Try and make a designated sitting area where you are surrounded by family and friends. When food is easily accessible you are more than likely to get seconds and thirds.
4. Listen to your body. When you are full stop eating. You can always finish your plate later on in the evening when you are truly hungry.
5. After dinner, go on a light walk to help with digestion. Taking a few minutes to digest and let the feeling of being full set in before cleaning up will help you avoid "picking" during clean-up.
