  •   landonnnnnn The arch is for a mechanical advantage to push heavier weights. It's not considered cheating as long as your butt stays on the pad. With the arch it's similar to benching on decline due to a change in angle so most people will be stronger this way. It also decreases range of motion slightly. Also with the arch you're able to retract your scapula and dig your back into the pad for tightness of the upper body which will make you feel more powerful. 17min

jmad44 Current bench setup. Of the three lifts, I feel my bench is my best as far as technique. I lift in the #uspa, so I'm not required to have my heels on the floor.
1. I screw my feet into the ground hard, externally rotating my hips and flexing my glutes hard.
2. Roll my shoulders back, pinching my blades together and creating my arch, lay back on the bench and take my grip, index on the rings.
3. Reinforce upper back tightness and arch by pulling away from the bar.
4. Dig my traps in hard, flex hard from the feet up, knees out, glutes squeezed, blades pinched, unrack, deep belly breath.
And bench!

I set up this way every time. Whether with 45 pounds or 345. Consistency is key. Now to develop good cues for sumo haha. #DUP #bench #powerlifting

  •   mpalmieri00 @israel_mech Good deal. I'm the same way. All the triples and 5 rep sets really brought my squat and bench up but I've been focusing on 3RM and 2RM mixed in with singles but not maxed. Still fuguring out the best way to taper though... 2h
  •   israel_mech @mpalmieri00 Yup I found that it helped getting form down a bit too. I'm still not too sure either currently I started at ~90% of what I plan on maxing with for triples followed by about ~92-95% ish for doubles then come the singles. But there's a bunch of ways I've read online testing this method out a ways away from the meet in case its too taxing or doesn't ramp up fast enough. 2h
  •   mpalmieri00 Yeah it's definitely a session to session feel thing... well for me. I do RPE so it's a bit different with some trade offs. It's also easy to get cute with the programming instead of just going in and fucking lifting the weight with some intensity. It's a constant internal battle lol. 2h

brah_migo Have sound on for a laugh 430 lbs being my current personal best, these were flying up. A little too fast. Might have blacked out for a split second. I did get 435 x4 with no fail @8 or so, but was drained after talking with a gentlemen for 5 minutes, so called it good. 4h
