slugsmagoo The guts of this 1954 Bausch and Lomb Cinemascope anamorphic lens have more in common with car engines of that period than anything capturing images. These were the first "combo" anamorphic lenses, which housed and focused everything together, rather than mounting an anamorphic adapter in front of the traditional spherical lens. The housing is cast aluminum and uses a bizarre combination of gears and cams to move both optical assemblies through the full range of focus. I'm pretty sure this one hasn't been opened in at least fifty years.

vintagelensesforvideo So here is a roundup of my current anamorphic solutions that we've been considering for the film I'm shooting next week. All 3 are actually a single focus setups. The plan was use all 3 and then fine-tune the 1.33x and 2x lenses to fit the 1.5x stretch of the lens in the middle. Unfortunately director felt that 2x has too much of a stretch for him and zooming the picture in to match the 1.5x crop would loose to much quality, so I don't think I will be using the FM for this project, not with a 2x lens anyway. Someone on Facebook mentioned that ISCO WIDE-SCREEN 2000 should work inside the FM, so that could be interesting. Full single focus setup without diopters for close up focusing. Will try that on Sunday.
As I mentored on previous post, I was very happy with ISCO+50mm F1.4 combo. The OPTEX+28mm F2 though was pretty soft around the edges. The benefit of using this lens is ability to use wider lenses like the 28mm, but I'll probably need to step down all the way to F5.6 to get decent overall sharpness.

  •   lifeinlimb0 I shot a short with 1.33x and 1.5x lenses mixed and the post on that was annoying with all the stretch correcting. A feature would be a nightmare if you ask me. 39min

vintagelensesforvideo Testing the main camera setup earlier today with what will probably be the main lens setup for the film I'll be shooting next week. If you look closely, it's the ISCO WIDE-SCREEN 2000 on the front of #FS700 recording 4k into Convergence Design 7Q. Coupled with Canon FD 50mm F1.4 this little anamorphic projection lens is mega sharp and has no problem handling 4k. I've also used my Tamrom Diopter to get closer with this setup which also worked absolutely beautifully. I'm absolutely loving the ISCO so far, very nice, subtle anamorphic look.

  •   ro_studios @vintagelensesforvideo Sweet, did you feel this was a better setup, than the FM module? Or was it more for the look that suited the Isco better. 3h
  •   vintagelensesforvideo @ro_studios the main reason this will probably be the main lens is because director felt that 2x stretch was to "cropped" for him. He even wanted to zoom in the 1.5x ISCO a bit to match the 2.35:1 aspect. I might actually try to stick the ISCO inside the FM to see what that will look like :) 3h
  •   ro_studios @vintagelensesforvideo interesting if that was the case the director might as well have asked you to shoot with the 1.33x instead. That would be interesting to see if the Isco can fit inside the FM 3h
  •   vintagelensesforvideo @ro_studios he liked the 1.33x stretch the most, but Optex 1.33x is nowhere as sharp as ISCO, so I will only use OPTEX for some wide shots. 3h
  •   ro_studios @vintagelensesforvideo I see, how about the precision optics? Are they any sharper than the optex? 3h

hoveringlights One more for the bog Century Optics anamorphic adapter. Thanks to its focus ring, this thing is not restricted to the fixed focus issues that we see in the smaller versions of Century, Optex and Soligor. It's also much more forgiving than any dual focus anamorphic. The size is quite impressive. 2d

vintagelensesforvideo FM LENS is also getting an upgrade, a rock solid Focus Gear to take this lens to the next level!

  •   leafscapes So there's no artifacts or weirdness from the glass in the lens? I'm convinced there's a "haze" effect after seeing outdoor tests @vintagelensesforvideo but I'd like to hear what you have to say! 2d
  •   vintagelensesforvideo @leafscapes I still only shot that one test and this lens seems to be great with Helios 44-2. I've experienced haze with Jupiter-9 but there is a lot of talk about fine-tuning the focusing distance on both taking lens and anamorphic lens to get re perfect balance when focusing with FM but as I haven't tried that yet, I can't confirm, not deny that it works. So far I feel like FM works better with some 85mm lenses than with others as apparently Olympus 85 and 100 are perfect with it. Need to do much more testing, but quite busy at the moment and weather is shit too :( 2d
  •   johnshibe What is FM? I don't understand :( Is it a lens? Is it an adapter or focus system? 2d
  •   vintagelensesforvideo @johnshibe it's a focus system for anamorphic projection lenses 2d
  •   leafscapes @vintagelensesforvideo thanks so much for taking the time to get into this with me. From where I'm sitting, I wouldn't use this on my kowa 16h (because the focus is now fairly easy for me to attain), but buying one of these to use with the Cinelux is essentially building your own cheap (and good) anamorphic with single focus which is invaluable! This really puts things into perspective for me, and will most likely have me putting in an order with @anamorphicshop sooner than later :) 1d
  •   vintagelensesforvideo @leafscapes I'm still in my early stages of testing but if you look at other peoples videos results are mostly really positive. I'll be testing it with Canon FD lenses tomorrow and hopefully will have some new info I share. 1d
