mshephd Visited a new site today and planted about 500 Horseshoe Vetch (Hippocrepis comosa) plants. We're hoping to establish a new colony of Adonis Blue (Polyommatus bellargus) butterflies which so far doesn't occur in Warwickshire. For local folk, the local nature reserve is called Ettington Cutting and it's in south Warwickshire. This flower is none of the above! Common Centaury (Centaurium erythraea). 2w

awecosmeceuticals #30 Centaury extract (Centaurium erythrea) is a herb, used throughout the centuries for numerous ailments including liver disease. It is used for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to protect elastin and the bodies natural stores of hyaluronic acid.

mshephd Today, I took a day off work and went with a group of other volunteers to survey a site that may become a new nature reserve soon. It was really interesting and I found a few new plants, one of them quite a rarity in Warwickshire, the county I live in - it's only been recorded at 7 sites in the county. This is Lesser Centaury (Centaurium pulchellum) 2mon
  •   mshephd @oldman37 thanks very much! 2mon
  •   mshephd @simcol thanks!! 2mon
  •   nelestrack Uuuhhhh...love it 2mon
  •   mshephd @nelestrack thanks! Glad you like it 2mon
  •   sharonkay99 Beautiful! I love that you post all the names of your finds2mon
  •   mshephd @sharonkay99 thank you very much, most kind! It's actually really useful for the nature reserve that I help to manage to know the number of species growing on there. If the number of species is increasing, which it is, it means we're creating good conditions for our plants. So when I find new species on there, it's a big deal for us 2mon
  •   amisahl Lovely! @mshephd 2mon

jennsutkowski Relaxing times, Centaury times. So in love with these thoughtful Bach Unfolding cards that go along with Bach flower essences - again thanks to @steph_zabel for introducing us to them. (Centaury for balancing giving and receiving love for self and others, Sweet Chestnut for letting go of other people's pain. We were *just* talking about this). #Centaury #SweetChestnut #Bach #BachUnfolding 2mon

  •   mshephd the deeply notched petals help you say that it's not a Centaury 2mon
  •   mshephd Oh and a bit of terminology for you. The green bits between the petals are called sepals and their size relative to the petals is often a very useful ID feature. 2mon
  •   rubyflowerfairy @mshephd SEPALS I think I will remember that word. 2mon
  •   rubyflowerfairy @rubyflowerfairy I am right next to the Dovesfoot Cranesbill. The leaves are the same, with hairy stems and the bit after the petals have fallen away are shaped the same too. It's pretty, I like the way you only see it by sitting down and taking time to look around you. You could so easily miss it. 2mon
  •   mshephd Excellent to hear. Some of my favourite finds have been made whilst sitting or lying in the mud photographing something else! 2mon
  •   rubyflowerfairy @andymapp if you read this thread you can see the best wildflower books are listed. By the way the guy who is in the conversation takes amazing pictures and is able to identify pretty much everything he photographs. He works with wildflowers as a job I think x 3w
  •   andymapp Wow thank you @rubyflowerfairy you really are a flower fairy you did a bit of manic there!!:-) X 3w
  •   andymapp Oops sorry crazy fingers meant magic 3w
