  •   thelonewolfclan You need "capitalism" in order to share. Without voluntary exchange, that "sharing" is really just forced confiscation and redistribution of property. 2w
  •   esmes_not_tall 'Forced confiscation and redistribution of property' is a phrase used to put a bad spin on equality of wealth and opportunity - even if it's true, it's still a more favourable economic policy than providing a life of superficial materialism for the elite and one of neglect for the disadvantaged. @thelonewolfclan 2w
  •   thelonewolfclan @esmes_not_tall It is the reality. It's using literal definitions if what it really is. There's no way around that. Materialism in the most part is a social problem, and regardless I'd rather have materialism than poverty (which always follows communism). If people want to be materialistic than that's an unfortunate choice, but it's their problem and they have the right to do so. Also the myth that voluntary exchange only benefits the elite is ridiculous. If anyone has ever bought something, sold something, traded something, ran a business, or joined a business; they've voluntarily participated in capitalism because they believed it was in their best interest to do so. The old man selling his carpentry work to community members is participating in capitalism just like a CEO running in business is as well, the old man analogy is even more so of a capitalist because he's probably not receiving government support like big corporations do. To clump all business and exchange together and call it "evil capitalism" is incorrect. 2w
