life_of_a_indigenous07 #Regrann from @theglobalmovement - More than 1,000 students from different educational institutions protested in Deodoro Square, in the center of São Luís – MA, Brazil, on the afternoon of Monday March 30, against an increase in bus fares announced by the City on Friday March 27, and which became effective on Sunday March 29.

The new bus fares come into force from 0h Sunday March 29 in São Luís. The value of the rate charged in most buses will rise from R $2.40 to R $2.80, while the lowest pass of R $1.90 to R $2.20 and R $1.60 to R $1.90.

Among the protesters’ demands, asking for the withdrawal of the increase are: improving the public transport system and urban mobility, fleet renewal (some buses run about 20 years with fiber seats without padding), free passes for students and the return of Domingueira – a benefit that reduced the cost of bus tickets in half on Sundays.

Practically a tradition in the city. The Domingueira was intended for all passengers, without requiring any registration or license, with a fixed price at the turnstile. Along with the first increase last June, the Domingueira was completely cut.

  •   billyblazes420 I'm all for protest and speaking out against governments but wouldn't it be very hard for a developing nation like brazil to upgrade it's bus fleet without raising the price? 1w
  •   billyblazes420 The FIFA protests I was 100% supporting the people but with all the challenges Brazilians face as a people and a nation protesting a slight raise in bus fees seems like an overreaction when the people demand renovations to the aging bus system. 1w
  •   theglobalmovement @billyblazes420 no logic in making bullet trains when your people don't have water and are being kicked off their land with force. Fix that first- than worry about the trains. 1w
  •   s_dijana U gonna enjoy Brasil at all ;)) @rayane_ezz 1w
  •   skillstopaythebills Damn 40 cents more, they must be dying. I feel bad if they came to the US and paid $5 to take the bus 1w
  •   mlisitajunqueira @skillstopaythebills maybe you should go visit Brazil .... Try thinking about how much money Americans X Brazilians get paid and their life cost, as well as, their differences in quality of life ... 1w
