  •   katatthebeach Lisa, I wish you had lived here in the early 90's when it truly was a Paradise. When people struggled to make a living on one Season so they could stay all year. I used to cry when I saw trees being cut down and continuous construction became our everyday scenery. I cried when Grayton Beach was written up as 1 of 10 most beautiful beaches, as I knew what that would bring. I don't cry anymore, because it has all changed and we have been programmed to believe that locals need the money. Progress is inevitable, but as we make more money the simplicity of living here is lost as everything skyrockets in cost. Locals become year around servants to some degree to those who vacation a week here. But, I am over it now and that it okay too. 4d
  •   loveandchaosx6 @katatthebeach, I remember. I wasn't here but I camped out in Grayton Beach in 1996 when Grayton got that nomination. The overdevelopment saddens me. So does the lack of viable incomes for locals beyond tourism. Progress can be thoughtful and it has not been that way here. It has been greedy. I don't blame the tourists. I blame the developers. 4d
  •   katatthebeach Sorry Lisa if it sounded like I was saying locals didn't need the money. Of course with the cost of living here now we need the money to live and, not just barely survive! The cost of long-term rentals is reaching disastrous amounts and pushing many employees across the bay, which already had a shortage of LT rentals and even these are 20% higher in price than last year. I have a bad feeling about this and the "stick our heads in a hole" attitude regarding America's economy. Y'all may be getting out of here just in the nick of time. I wish you and your family well dear friend! 4d
  •   loveandchaosx6 No, I knew what you were saying. It's the way the economy has developed that has screwed locals. The incomes are low and the rents are high. That was from the development being rushed through without thought. 4d
