islandessence Never dat! I'm all about empowering women but not a feminist. Feminism started as a white woman's problem. Historically black women were never oppressed by our men. They revered us. And as for being treated as equals... we're not! We completely different beings. We advocate daily for acceptance of human differences but we try to reject the great differences in sexes. Even in the animal kingdom there's obvious gender difference. My man is my king and he will be treated as such. I'll pass on a man who wants to be treated like a female. #feminist #nothanks #womensempowerment #antifeminist #sorrynotsorry #blackwoman #knowyourself #knowyourhistory #whitegirlproblems #MondayMeds #islandessence 39min
  •   nannypickney (Besides the white woman feminism thing....) From my understanding of feminism...it's not about negating or berating masculinity. It's simply a call for equality. I do believe we are equal but different. A man is as important as a woman in society. Am I a feminist though, no. "I'm for equality and justice no matter who it's for or against" - Malcolm X seh supm like that. 33min
  •   nannypickney And I don't believe all Black men value Black women as their equals. Those tend to be runts of the race that I despise though. 32min

  •   execumama Exactly @nannypickney! Unfortunately, feminism has been used as another separation tactic among Black people. Even some of the most prolific Black men of our time still view women as inferior; not just different from men, but inferior. Indeed, feminism began as a white woman's struggle, but to maintain that view, for me, would be akin to maintaining the view of so many other HUMAN issues that were once only considered white issues. Feminism is about women and men both being valid, relevant, and equally worthy of regard. Media tends to portray it as a man-hating concept, but it is not. Just like being pro-Black doesn't make me anti-White, being a feminist doesn't in any way diminish my value of men. 23min
  •   execumama Tiph'arah, when you say you'll "pass on a man that wants to be treated like a female" are you saying that men who consider themselves feminists are not men who are worthy of King status? 21min
  •   blackstarkei The only people that needed an entire movement to understand the basic, universal truth that man and woman are equal are white folk. This was an unquestioned fact, better yet way of life in Africa. It is to me the very evidence of backwardness to have to tell people that a man shouldn't oppress a woman. The white woman needed to tell her man this and we all know why. 19min
  •   blackstarkei A peoples culture comes from their civilization or lack of it. What pray tell does feminism have to do with African culture? Can we just get work to get back to our roots rather than taking up the woes of others? Besides, the black man has no power to oppress us. 16min
  •   nannypickney One thing I'm uncomfortable with regarding our 'Pan-Afrikan' people is the assumption that everything Black/Afrikan is all true and holy. Black people are as flawed as any other. I just refuse to be told that we are inferior and to be denied of our TRUTH. In our quest to find our truth, we exalt fallacy, romanticism and bullshit. Saying that @execumama you hit the nail on the head for me with the 'Pro-Black' comparison. 6min
