Summer of 1897 - Paris, France

⠀Nearly a week had passed since Count Dracula last saw the little ballerina of the Opera Garnier. She had fallen victim to his terror and proved to be such an easy creature to lure in and take advantage of, and in the end he left her with nothing but the promise of him haunting her steps again. He could still remember the smell of blood perfuming her newly claimed body, and hear her parting words when she called him a beast. It may have been meant to insult him, but he gloated in that she despised him for all he'd done.
⠀And as much as Elisabeth might have hoped otherwise, he hadn't forgotten her in the days that crept by, and he was confident that she definitely hadn't forgotten him. But part of the torment was letting the young lady's mind drive her with fear that he was always watching. He could just imagine how much sleep she lost each night, laying awake to check the shadows for movement, loathing to shut her eyes lest she find his jaws at her throat again. It was the psychological game of a vampire playing with his prey, just as a cat would toy with a mouse before the coup de grace. At least he hoped that would be the effect on his new toy.
⠀His own time during the week had not been idle, for this was Paris and there was no shortage of sin, debauchery, blood, and promiscuous women. The vampire indulged in all of it without restraint, and two accounted deaths were put up in the papers, though no amount of investigation had explained them.
⠀Then on the sixth day since meeting the young Elisabeth, an elegantly detailed envelope came to the Parisian estate of the Count, hand delivered by a personal courier of the Opera. Apparently the theater never forgot their wealthiest attendees and expected much more from them, hence the gold ink inscribing his title on the front. It was the middle of the day, so the vampire was quick to receive it and quick to close his door after the rehearsed formalities were made from the courier.

⠀Crossing the foyer with eyes down on the envelope he was opening, Dracula passed into an adjoining parlor and reclined back on a divan of rose upholstery. It was dark as a cave with all the thick drapes pulled shut, but he read over the letter of invitation easily and in one quick scan.
⠀The Opera Garnier had been closed since last Saturday due to a tragic fatality of a girl—a fact he was quite aware of—and the building intended to reopen tomorrow after a week of sorting the matter and hoping their patrons forgot the tragedy. Of course the invitation said nothing of the sort, merely that a masked ball was being held to celebrate the start of a new production and that, 'the presence of Your Lordship, Count Dracula would be an honor'.
⠀Yes, they wanted his financial support in pledges or donations, that much was obvious, and perhaps he would give it—perhaps in an overwhelmingly generous form. A smirk twisted on his lips as plans took form in his conniving mind. The Count tucked the small card he would need to present at the theater into a breast pocket of his jacket and tore up everything else with a certain degree of satisfaction before scattering it to the floor.
⠀"I believe it is time I pay my beauty a visit after all." He murmured to himself as a way of accepting of the invite. "Until tomorrow then..." Those final words meant for Elisabeth herself. 3h

  •   a.ballet.girl.of.the.opera ⠀As the week passed as horribly slow as it did, each night seemed longer than the first to the poor ballerina. Ever since her first night alone with the Count of Transylvania where he tormented her mind, took her innocence and stole her blood, she couldn't help but be afraid of even her own shadow. Every night, she would lie awake, her eyes scanning the dark as if something-or in this case-someone was lurking there like it was their natural home. Elisabeth was beyond frightened, this was no Opera Ghost were she could believe that it wasn't real. No, this time, she was forced to believe in something horrible and awful that made her physically tremble if he got too close to her.
⠀The worst part about it all was that she couldn't tell a living soul about her problem. As Dracula said, she would be thrown into a insane asylum for a girl of her status to be going around telling true stories of this horrid noble. Who would even believe her? So, she held it all in, never letting a single emotion from her experience with her Beast out. Inevitably, the emotions would overrule her and she would become a depressed maiden with mascara running down her cheek and rumors following her around that she was being manipulated by men and that she couldn't take it anymore, a new favorite topic in the ballet rats' ears.
⠀As the week almost came to a close, she had the glorious idea pop into her head. Perhaps the Count had forgotten about her! Many stories were floating around Paris about two victims that had been found dead with two precise puncture holes pierced in their throat. Could Dracula be done with the Brunette? Why, of course! He had several other sinful women in Paris that would take his attention without a doubt! Maybe he left his Paris estate already! On his way back to Transylvania! Yes! These thoughts floated around the Ballerina's head with glee, letting a heavy weight get lifted from her shoulders. If he was out of Paris, then she wouldn't have to worry about the lord turning up at the Masquerade the next day to haunt her again.[]1/3[] 3h
  •   a.ballet.girl.of.the.opera ⠀Elisabeth slept peacefully that night, having all horrid thoughts of the Count fly away from her head like the mourning doves that cooed in the morning. Throughout the day, a smile was something that could be seen on her lips. Everything was perfect and everything was going to be perfect for that night. And truly, it was.
⠀Nearly an hour after sunset, the lobby of the Palais Garnier was filled with people who were laughing, singing and chatting. It was quite the difference, for only a week ago was this place completely vacant, no one single soul left in the building, for the...accident had horrified people and left them aghast at what happened. That could not be seen tonight...The orchestra was playing their sweet tune with Monsieur Reyer conducting as he always did. People were dancing in the middle of the room, others were off to the side or lining the grand staircase, and some were being whisked away by their lovers into the lonesome hallways to do God only knows what. The melodies that lifted the air seemed joyous and flawless, a strong shield that seemed unbreakable. Everyone's aura was calm, relaxed, and genuinely...happy. There wasn't a single thing that could go wrong that night.
⠀Standing near the base of the staircase stood three girls that belonged to the ballet corps, laughing and jesting at each other as they watched the crowd of swirling colors dance before their eyes. "Now, you truly don't believe he will come do you, Aurelia?" Elisabeth, attired in a dress of a golden fabric with accents of white trailing up the skirt and the bodice with a mask of white covering the upper most part of her face, addressed the girl standing on the right of her.
⠀"Why, of course I do! He told me he will!" The girl protested, shooting an angry glare at both Elisabeth and her friend who were teasing Aurelia earlier about her gentleman caller. The other two giggle slightly, exchanging glances. "Oh, Elisabeth...It isn't like you have a suitor at this ball." []2/3[] 3h
  •   a.ballet.girl.of.the.opera ⠀The Prima Ballerina raised her eyebrow at the comment, turning her body to face Aurelia. "My dear, it is not one of my wishes to be care for by a man," She lied easily through her teeth. "They are nothing, but bloodthirsty villains who always are trying to manipulate us." This, of course, was her experiences with the men she had encountered in her life...Her father, the male dancers, the dirty fly men, and most importantly, with Count Vladislavs Dracula. []3/3[] 3h
  •   vladislavs.dracula The Count's coach rattled to a smooth halt on the cobblestones outside the Opera Garnier that night of the Masquerade—being only one amongst many already. The place was clearly busy with life just from the sound of symphonic music and chatter seeping through the walls to catch the ears of any passerby's outside.
People must have forgotten that tragedy rather easily, or simply just assumed it an odd stunt, to show up here all dressed in their finest and laughing amongst peers like carefree aristocrats. To them, anything supernatural or unexplained was simply just not true and thus why the Phantom of the Opera was believed to be a story to scare people, and why Dracula remained nothing but a myth.
Sliding from his seat and dropping with an almost soundless grace to the street, the vampire pushed the coach door shut behind him before giving it a soft rap so the driver moved on. In his hand was a pure black mask, detailed in subtle ways around the eye holes and edging, though extremely classy; it easily matched his tailored ensemble of the same colour which was styled to flaunt his high rank in society. The former item he almost immediately brought to his face, tying off the silk ribbons at the back of his dark hair so that the upper half of his face was hidden and he blended perfectly among the other wealthy men when he glided into the main hall of the Opera.
The beautiful golden room was teaming with a kaleidoscope of other colours from the ornate gowns, masks, and decorated costumes, and dotted here a there were professional black-suited waiters serving champagne off of gilt trays, one of which made himself present as soon as the Count entered.
"Champagne, my lord?" The man said politely, though Dracula's scanning eyes took a moment to come off the crowds and look at the other male.
"No." He rebuffed superiorly and was about wave him off when he suddenly decided: "On second thought—" and scooped a hand under one of the flutes before moving on. [1/2] @a.ballet.girl.of.the.opera 3h
  •   vladislavs.dracula The drink would help him pass as human, perhaps even in the eyes of Elisabeth who he prioritized in finding. She would expect to find him avoiding food and preying on the living most likely. However, it was hard for someone like him to mask the pallid skin, cold aura, and red eyes, so he would have to catch her distracted and play a convincing role that wouldn't give him away.
His regal saunter around the perimeter of those dancing, came to a stop as his eyes landed on three young women near the steps, one of which he unmistakably knew was Elisabeth. As always, she was radiant and surpassed the others in beauty, yet her tongue had a bitter note while presently describing men, something he easily overheard even at a distance. Now was his time to act.
Approaching the women almost shyly with head tipped down a bit and gaze angled at the floor to hide his irises, the Count stopped right before the ballerina. "Would you perhaps do me the honor of a dance, beautiful lady?" He asked decorously with a small bow to follow, then stretched out the gloved hand not cradling his drink. He honestly looked extremely humble, as if she were the one above him in rank and he was daring to aim high. Without ever glancing up to her masked face, his hand remained out, and behind him a new dance was starting. [2/2] @a.ballet.girl.of.the.opera 3h

In this edit I wanted to show how the things you love and want may not be what you need. When these tried ti get what they wanted it didn't work out the way the hoped.
