michael_kunde It's already been 6 months since my winter in Asia... I'm still slowly making my way through images... Just like this picture it all feels like a dream. #missit #balloonsoverbagan #bagan #myanmar #travel #nationalgeographic @natgeo #getoutstayout #camp4pix 1mon

pamela_ho One photo of #Bagan at sunrise by @NatGeo's Michael Yamashita @yamashitaphoto prompted me to make a trip to Bagan. I also got to meet the gentleman behind Balloons over Bagan - he was at the Australian Festival of Travel Writing 2013 in Melbourne. In 2000, when Yamashita took one of the first flights to shoot for natgeo story on Marco Polo, there was only one balloon. Now there are more than 20 taking tourists twice a day on one of the most popular balloon rides worldwide. From the air, you can photograph more than 4,000 pagodas and temples in what was the capital of the first Burmese empire. Magical sacred plain - I'm still in love with this place! #myanmar #bagan #burma #temples #pagodas #hotairballoon #natgeo #michaelyamashita #balloonsoverbagan #travel #wanderlust #vagabonding #regram #photorepost 2mon

james.c.chen Cheers to Balloons Over Bagan for a job well done (everyone survived). I highly recommend this company because [1] the pilots have been brought in from the U.K. and have over 1,000 hours of ballooning experience each, [2] they provide third party liability insurance in case anything goes wrong, and most importantly, [3] they have a 100% safety record. 7mon

james.c.chen Hot air ballooning immediately after sunrise was an awesome life experience. This was by far the highlight of my Burma trip. Will upload the entire 1-hour, 25+ GB GoPro video of the flight over Bagan when I find a fast Wi-Fi connection. The ride was even better when I found out that I was in a balloon full of mostly Americans (90% of them were old and retired and didn't want to deal with travel planning so they came on an organized tour). Overall, most of the westerners I've met so far in Myanmar are all European. Americans need to represent more! 7mon

james.c.chen Other than the occasional sound of the flames to keep the balloon aloft, the ride was incredibly quiet and peaceful. 7mon

james.c.chen The view of the 40 square kilometer Bagan plain from a hot air balloon is unmatched. 7mon

james.c.chen Flew in a hot air balloon for the first time in my life. I highly recommend that you do this if you visit Bagan! These massive balloons seem to be as large as the pagodas themselves and they can seat up to 16 people. The flame also shoots up 10+ feet, fueled by large propane tanks. You can definitely feel the heat once you step into the basket. 7mon
