jag2013 Thanks @tatapup for sending us the link to the story about a new rattlesnake vaccine for dogs. I think it's a good idea to take precautions. Apollo and I are going to stay in our yard until there is one for humans #itsajungleoutthere #backyardliving #backyardadventures 13h
  •   georgederrick2 Are you having an unusual problem with rattlesnakes this year? 12h
  •   jag2013 @georgederrick2 It sure seems like it! I keep hearing stories about sightings and people and dogs getting bitten in our #Marincounty. I think our drought must be the reason why. Prior to this in a span of 16 years I had only heard of one rattlesnake bite. In the past week I've heard of 4 -- one guy was bitten while riding a unicycle! I think the snake was offended in that case How about you in Texas? 12h
  •   georgederrick2 I'm just a little east of Dallas. Not many rattlesnakes in this part of the state. Tons of rain this year as well. I've heard of people in desert areas doing rattlesnake vaccine before. The most common venomous snake around here would be water moccasins. I don't think people get bit by them very often. I lived in southern California when I was a kid. Never saw a rattlesnake there. Lots of gopher snakes, which look and behave like a rattlesnake. @jag2013 11h
  •   maybeinoz My parents' husky was bit by a rattlesnake a few years ago. She now gets the booster shots regularly because dogs don't usually live through bites twice. My brother also got bit many years ago! 6h
  •   jag2013 Oh my gosh, @maybeinoz how awful. Were these snakes in California? 3h
  •   jag2013 @georgederrick2 I've heard that Water Moccasins are very poisonous. I have seen Gopher Snakes on the other side of town in the open space where we used to walk before moving and before we had Apollo. I figured they were gopher snakes, but I guess I'm not really sure. They didn't rattle. Thank goodness I've only seen some small, harmless snakes up on the mountain we are perhed on. 3h

joshtilford "A man's interest in a single bluebird is worth more than a complete but dry list of the fauna and flora of a town." Henry David Thoreau

This point marked the furthest I had explored the #TennesseeRiverGorge, or #CashCanyon as it is also regarded, prior to this past Sunday. The gorge cuts through the #CumberlandPlateau, winding 26 miles from just west of downtown Chattanooga all the way to Nickajack Lake. It is rich in protected archeological sites, some revealing human inhabitation dating back at least 10,000 years! One could spend 1,000 lifetimes learning it's ever changing intricacies and still Thoreau would be correct. Check out @tnrivergorge to see the work they are doing in protecting this vulnerable landscape. Randy Whorton. #SUPchattanooga #SUP #backyardadventures

  •   joshtilford @mandssss soooooo peaceful And thanks! 6h
  •   tnrivergorge @joshtilford Josh you have said well. You could spend a lifetime learning the ever changing intricacies and still only have touched the beginning. It is a responsibility that we all bear. 2h
