reflexology_therapist I remember when I hurt my back and a fellow reflexologist started massaging my ears and this part of my ear was on fire! It related specifically to my sore back and I was pretty amazed! Many people head to the gym later in the day, after work; however, getting a lift in after prolonged sitting can be problematic to the spine. When we sit we make the spine weaker - there is no activation of supporting muscle groups and pressure is put on the passive structures. To reverse this trend we can go into spinal extension which can be accomplished by standing with great posture, or lying prone on the floor and pressing up onto the forearms (plank). If you are going to the gym to lift after long periods of sitting, one of the best things to do is to warm up: - Walk or run on the treadmill for 10-15 minutes as a general warmup to get your muscles loose
- Perform planks & side planks
- Perform bridges
During your warm up, activating the core muscles will be essential in protecting the spine. It is important to minimize loading on the spine until after you have warmed up, so save exercises like crunches, situps, deadlift, squats, etc. for later in your workout.
