Today is the last day of #ihealwithyamas and it's my downfall day twists and binds so I had my assistant Rosie join inUp until three months ago when I was injured by someone accidentally in class, I wouldn't have thought Id ever be using a strap in primary Astanga class. That's not because I'm cocky it's just I have the problem with engaging not opening up and getting into weird shapes etc. Now things have changed. I have demoed the use of my @infinitystrap which again I had no clue what to do with when it arrived and the a ead band. My ashtanga teacher Danielle also use to have vacuum cleaner bands as her prop for students to use when binding. Anyhoo, I did t have a vacuum strap or I would have tonight. So in my journey the one thing I have always struggled with is proper hand grip. I'm not sure if you do or not so here's a tip In ashtanga yoga, in all of the marichyasana positions the binding arm (the arm wrapping in front of the leg) is the grabbing hand. I know I do and you too may find it interesting to switch grips and notice the changes that this creates. You may find it easier to grab the other way. You can then use this "reversed" grip to pull the arms deeper and then from there switch back to the "proper" grip. But the first is the proper way. The last tip I had for you is in the warm up before I bind. I just recently saw this arm hold instead of prayer hands as I demoed on the bottom. It actually felt nice on my injured leg so you might like this as well. Since this is the last post I want to say thank you all for sharing your stories with us.
