kellymarie_yoga Day 1 of #ExploreYourWilderness is breathing exercises! What an excellent way to begin any practice. I'll be honest, when I first started yoga I had no interest in breathing practices. I breathe all the time, why would anyone have to practice that?! But as my practice has developed, so has my appreciation for the importance of breathe. The breathe connects movement and feeds the spirit. Different types of breathing can have different effects. For instance, exhaling through the nose traps heat within the body. This is beneficial for any practice but especially practices that involve deep backbending and flexibility. Exhaling through the mouth has a cooling effect on the body and can help you maintain stamina during practices that require a lot of powerful movements. Practicing breathing while sitting still reduces stress and improves focus. So yes, we should all practice breathing! If you practice at home and don't regularly practice breathing, I encourage you to try it. There are plenty of videos on YouTube that can help guide you but eventually it should be practiced independently.
