lindseyandtom The Callanish Stones are a 5000 year old standing stone circle and cross on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland. This ancient, most likely religious structure, is older even than many more famous structures like the great pyramids!

palaeolexicon Venetic epitaph from Padua reading: puponei ego rakoi ekvupetaris. Translated approx. as I am the horse-rider Poponeius Racus - alternatively I am [the tomb] of the horse-rider Poponeius Racus. P. Baldi translates ekvopetaris as tomb, but it means horse-rider, from proto-Italic *ekwo- "horse" (see de Vaan & Lubotsky 2008). #archaeology #venetic #inscription #italic #linguistics #padua 32min
