stevedfarmer I seen this photo that I find very false according to Australia Law. While its my choice to rear all my calves bulls and heifers accord to Australian law calves can't be sold at sale unless older than 5 days at which time it has received enough colostrum from its mother or the farmer (we keep colostrum in freezer should cow be sick and unable to feed calf) . My local cattle sales are held usually every 14 days (weather permitting, to wet = no sale) At an average cattle & calf sales their sold usually in groups to save time, as sales of 500 head of cattle is a low amount of cattle sold. Given the dry conditions in western Qld & NSW, has certainly increase the price of cattle, should farmers be able to hold onto their animals instead of selling calves for less than $50 can hold onto them for maybe 2 years can sell for thousands. But if I was to sell a calf I much prefer to sell it locally, to avoid cartage / yard fee / scanning fee / sales commission & weighting fee (if animal above 100kgs) as there certainly long list of farmers willing to buy, to do the same as I do.
Given that this calf looks to be sold individually, makes extra interesting as these calves most likely worth hundreds if not thousands because it sold for its genetics, living VIP treatment cause it's worth so much, most likely it's a female, the owner harvest its egg (ovaries) yes like in the human world farmer wants to create designer calves, so farmer can have heaps of big milking cows. This sound perfect for some but for me far to stressful for my liking as calves can always die from dog attacks, snake bites or even lightning strikes Hence to reduce the stress I rear the animals with the ones that I've got, and not chase perfection. #dairycows #dairyfarm #dairyfarming #dairying #factsnotfear #farmerslovetheiranimals #getthefacts #allfarmersaredifferent #truthaboutdairy #cheese #icecream #milk #dairycows #farmerslife #veal #animalsaustralia #ausdairy

  •   let.them.be.free.86 Taking a baby away from its mother at any age is savagery regardless of the loop holes you use to justify it. Compassion. #govegan 40min
  •   stevedfarmer @thefarmerchick @saltwater_verandah I find it at times very difficult selling my cattle knowing that majority of consumers just treat as just another steak / sausage or roast, no idea of the friendship shared from drought, flood, sicknesses & health, but bills have to be paid ......once you eaten your own meat killed by home kill butcher, you fell sorry for the city folk eating whatever their butcher can provide, but it's also very economical, once got a old bore killed cause of his age, Meatworks only give us 10 to 20 cent a kg for it, his steaks & sausage were fine, not sure why people get so fussy 38min
  •   let.them.be.free.86 @saltwater_verandah ... no its not crazy. Its your sense of compassion kicking in and hopefully it does so for every living creature. Just like you, they feel, they fear, they mourn ... and they don't want to die. It is nothing short of tragedy that we have forgotten that or better yet, seem to have the uncanny ability to totally ignore it. 37min
  •   stevedfarmer @let.them.be.free.86 so why are cattle suffering in western Qld and NSW don't you care about these animals why are you life saving gone to feed them check out @buyable 55s

caroline_casidi Hashtag & Eyebrow: " Wild Horses or 'Brumbies' as their better known are under threat once again in the Mount Kosciusko area of NSW. Wild horses are an introduced species that cost the NSW Government approx A$1070 ( NZ$1122 ) per horse to remove via trapping & ariel culling- a program that has cost the NSW Government more than A$2.8 million since 2002. The Snowy Mountains Brumby Sustainability & Management Group's, Alan Lanyin has said 'there is no issue with damage from horses'. Wouldn't the money be better allocated into further education ie: The Mount Druitt area or other areas in need?. Brumbies are a quintessential Australian symbol so wouldn't it be wild to do something a little 'Aussie' & a little bit different instead of culling these poor creatures.? carolynjane_ Adopted these two beautiful 6 month old siblings yesterday. Through no fault of their own and pure human irresponsibility, their pregnant mum was dumped at a cat shelter (she has since found her forever home). They've spent their entire lives inside a cage and are terrified of people, having had little to no human interaction. Having volunteered at a shelter before, I can tell you that the future is very grim for timid or unsociable cats. A lot of them will grow up in a shelter, never experiencing love or a warm bed or a lap to sit on. Black cats and dogs are also one of the hardest colour animals to adopt out. We have over 550 THOUSAND healthy animals in Australia being euthanised nearly every year purely because we don't have enough homes for them, yet we keep breeding more? Shelter life is enough to send even the most kind natured cat or dog aggressive, and as soon as they show the slightest sign of aggression - especially in dogs - that's basically a death sentence. Please help our homeless animal crisis. Please do not buy from breeders and add to the demand for more animals whilst healthy ones in shelters die. Please be responsible, spay and neuter your pets. Even if you can find a home for the puppies and kittens you allow your dog/cat to have - that's a whole bunch of homes that could of been given to the already existing dogs and cats we have! Letting your pets breed is making a whole bunch of shelter pets miss out on a home! Please considering adopting your next animal from a shelter ️ shelter pets always know that you're the reason they were given a second chance, their love and gratitude is indescribable. Till every last cage is empty, first option is adoption #rescuecat #firstoptionisadoption #animalsaustralia #catsofinstagram #blackcats 2d

warriorforanimals Not the video I wanted to see! Aussie TV stars @lifeguardhoppo & @jessepolock at #dolphinmarinemagic riding Jet the dolphin. Please let them know how cruel and unjustifiable this is.
This video is also great example on why the RSPCA wants this place to shutdown. #emptythetanks #captivitykills #animalcruelty #animalrights

The great man @petersiddle403 for @animalsaustralia.

This long weekend and Australia Day, keep animals off your plate! If you're having a BBQ there are so many fantastic and absolutely delicious vegetarian options available.

Don't let any gorgeous baby lambs, cows, pigs, chickens or any other sentient beings suffer merely for your palate pleasure or for 'tradition'. Their lives are worth far more than that.
