wearehibred #TBT || Hauʻoli Lā Hānau Prince Jonah #Kuhio Kalanianaʻole! Jonah, known as Prince Kuhio, was born on Kauaʻi's south shore near Poʻipu Beach on March 26, 1872. His birthday is celebrated as a Hawaiʻi state holiday (which is today). Adopted into the royal family, along with his brother David Kawananakoa, and titled princes for life by David Kalakaua, they were aliʻi by right of descent from their great-grandfather Kauaʻi’s King Kaumualiʻi. #PrinceJonahKuhio Kalanianaʻole was a cultural hybrid. #Hawaiian in blood, appearance, name and loyalties, his overall attitude was a makeup of his education. He was primarily educated in California and England, and spent a year in Japan. Kuhio's wife was Chiefess Elizabeth Kahanu Kaʻauwai. Regrettably, the union was a love match that produced no children. Regardless, all chances for ascending the throne were halted with the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893. Two years later, the prince, affectionately known as “Prince Cupid,” a royalist, was arrested for treason for plotting a counter-revolutionary attempt. He spent the next two years in jail as a political prisoner. In 1903, he reorganized the Royal Order of Kamehameha and was the founder of the first Hawaiian Civic Club. In 1921, Kuhio stirred the emotions of the U.S. Congress as he spoke of the decline of his people who numbered fewer than 24,000 in the 1920 census, believed to be about 10% of the former Native Hawaiian population. In 1921, President Harding signed the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act. Despite Kuhio’s wishes, the Act contained high blood quantum requirements and leased the land back to the people of the land, it had illegally stole from, making it a perpetual American government institution. Kuhio died in Honolulu in 1922 at the age of fifty. He was given a state funeral befitting an aliʻi (King). After a week of mourning, he was buried at Mauna ‘Ala, the Royal Mausoleum in Nuʻuanu, O‘ahu. He dedicated his life to the future well-being of his people, and was also instrumental in launching international Hawaiian canoe-racing. #PrinceKuhio #AlohaForward #WeAreHI 3w

Us as Islanders should stand up side by side in an effort to not only fight for every cause that effects every islander, not only native Hawaiians but every indigenous culture. Polynesians.. I grew up in Hawaii.. Live in Hawaii, and Was Raised in Hawaii. Grew up with a lot of hawaiian Bradas and Sistas. No matter our differences the one thing we all have in common is hawaii!! •   nawaakawai My great grandfather John Henry Wise was best friends with Prince Kuhio, thus my grand uncle, Joah Kuhio Kalanianaole Wise. Was the territorial senator in 1915, introduced his homestead bill in 1919. This bill was for Hawaii, because the immigrants were getting homes for working on the plantions. When this bill was wrote the blood quantum was suppose to be one drop. And 1500 acres parcels, so Hawaiians could be self sufficient, growing produce, raising livestock . When the first homesteads were awarded, my papa got 365 acres. He grew taro and pigs on the land. But alas he came to Oahu becoming the first Hawaiian teacher at Kamehameha school 1026. He was also the 2nd professor of hawaiian language at the University of hawaii!, He started the hawaiian church Kamakua Mau loa in 1907. Located on mokuea st. In Kalihi. He is the first hawaiian to play college football, in 1891 and 1892, he play and was coached by John Heisman. He's from the first class at Kamehameha! He is a desentant of Kapele the sister of Hewahewa. He was a kahuna of lua and La ou lapa ou. Just google Jonh henery Wise and you can see all he did for his people. You also can go down to the mission house and look at the 2013 Hawaiian Historical Jounal. It talks about how he was imprisoned for three years for trying to get Lili back in power. My name is les Hutchins Aloha. 2w
