easilycrestfallen I got into a bit of trouble taking this picture at the Hollyhock house. Stringent no photography rules. It's worth a trip, nonetheless. #hollyhockhouse #franklloydwright #alinebarnsdall #hollywood #losangeles #losangeleshistory 1mon
  •   heidicorona "Better to do it and get in trouble than ask permission and them say no." Kind of a life motto, Ray? 1mon
  •   easilycrestfallen @heidicorona yes! It's easier to get forgiveness than permission. 1mon
  •   heidicorona Your way of saying it seems s little dull. I prefer my run-on sentence! 1mon

  •   arqua_petrarca Yeah, you don't get clients like that nowadays! 2mon
  •   freddy374 Apparently Aline Barnsdall (the client) fired Frank Lloyd Wright before the entire project was complete due to cost overruns etc. She didn't like the house and never lived in it, choosing to live in the guest house nearby! @arqua_petrarca 2mon

losangelesexplorersclub Yes, we waited in that insane line to see inside the Frank Lloyd Wright Barnsdall "Hollyhock" House. And should you find yourself wanting to do the same thing, here's our LA Explorers suggestions:
Bike over there, you silly. Parking is a circus.
Bring a flask or a coffee mug with some extra tequila shots. You're gonna need some excitement.
Plan a picnic! It's a gorgeous day and clear too! Have a friend set up a blanket and food, and take turns lounging in the sun on the amazing lawn. It's open for free until 4pm, so get a move on it. --------------------------------------It took 3 years to build for about $150,000 underwent at least 3 renovations, and is finally open to the public after the latest 6 year renovation, costing about $4.5 million. Well spent! This house is amazing! One of the most famous parts of the house is this bas relief over the fireplace (with a moat that was to be filled by water from the outside fountain via underground passageway). The house was built for an oil heiress, Aline Barnsdall in the 1920's, who actually never lived here, but stayed living in the Olive Hill neighborhood of LA until her death. Now surrounded by a hospital, mega church and parking structures, this hidden hill was on the outer reaches of East Hollywood {was called Prospect Park at the time} and was home to about 1225 olive trees in the late 1890's. Aline and Wright kept most of the trees they could considering the massive construction project, but only about 90 remain today, scattered through the area. So, go ahead, hug a century old tree today. It's Valentines after all. ️🌳️. ---------------------------------------#laexplorers #bikela #exploremore #barnsdallartpark #alinebarnsdall #franklloydwright #hollhockhouse #architecture #basrelief #losangeles #wrightforbreakfast #olivetree #lahistory

papermoonvtg Here's my man Nathan and I, eagerly waiting for those front doors to the #HollyhockHouse to reopen after years of being closed for restoration. It will finally happen February 13th! Built in 1918-1920 for #AlineBarnsdall it is an architectural marvel of breathtaking beauty. The spirit of #FrankLlyodWright must be very pleased and I would imagine could be present during the tours they will give all through the night on that Friday. The bowtied man in the next photo is the Chief Curator we were lucky to meet at our meeting there today. And to think this is literally 4 blocks from my shop, with a great view of the #Hollywoodsign! Having my paper moon photo booth at this grand event will certainly be a highlight of my career. #Wrightatnight #losangeleshistory #historicallandmark #JeffreyHerr 3mon
