karenannewaters Life Post-Comp can be quite confronting. Some may experience a change in body composition coming off the strict comp diet and not reverse dieting properly (guilty - went from comp diet to vegan BOOM massive shock to the system!) Then there is the subject of supps and training regimes along with variables such as changes in vocation, location or domestication . For me, possible overuse injuries not rested or rehabilitated properly during training, lead to a complete halt in training routines.
Aside from aesthetic changes and let's face it, aesthetics is what you're judged on, there can be loss in strength too. It's a challenge for the psyche, mine anyway. I'm back to lifting 2.26kg in a shoulder press and struggling to complete 3 sets of 12 lateral raises with the same weight. I'm lucky if I can do 3 chin-ups total when I was punching out 50 in total pre-comp. Forget push-ups they are a complete no go for now and I'm down to 1.5kg on the reverse fly! Frustrating doesn't even cover it! All that hard work. You don't use it, you loose it.
Our minds are similar, there has to be some burden, weight or challenge in order to become stronger, mentally fitter and balanced. Feeling s of failure came up for me post comp and fear. Was I going to be a forty something chick with frozen shoulder, unable to get back into rock climbing or kick boxing or more importantly playing my beloved music. Sometimes the load can be seemingly beyond our ability, just like being in the gym we may need a spotter to guide technique or help with last few reps. The outcome is increased strength and endurance funny how getting help can improve your strength So the lessons are to rest, ask for help when needed, even if you can only lift 2.26kg your still moving forward, unless you're competing, who cares if it takes longer?
