seaworld_pod Mak can be pretty tricky to ID if you don’t know what to look for. He would be the smallest orca right now, but he’s growing so quickly that that may soon change! Mak has a small nick in his right eyepatch, and two small “line” notches in his left eyepatch. HIs flukes have no defining marks and his dorsal looks like a smaller version of Trua’s with a slight but sudden turn at the top of it. 2d

seaworld_pod Nalani can be a pretty easy orca to ID once you know what to look for. Her left eyepatch is shaped quite like a diamond, with a triangular shape on both the tip and bottom. Her right eyepatch has 3 prongs in the front that are all about the same size and are one after the other. Her dorsal leans slightly to her left and her flukes have no obvious markings or notches. Her mouth chips are more prominent than those of Malia (this is a good way to tell the two girls apart!), as they go down farther and are boxier. 2d

seaworld_pod Trua is one of the easiest orcas to ID, mostly because he’s basically COVERED with freckles!! He has a freckle in both his right eyepatch, and his left eyepatch has 2 prongs/points in the front of it. He has two freckles on the left side of his jaw, and his belly also has multiple freckles on it. Trua’s dorsal doesn’t bend at all (yet) and he has a small notch/chip on the left side of his flukes. Trua is also larger than the other babies (Nalani, Malia, and Makaio) So if the babies are all out together, he’ll be the biggest one. 2d

seaworld_pod ID Tips: Malia can be tricky to find if you don’t know what to look for, as you have to go by eyepatches more than anything else. Both her left and right eyepatches are long and thin, unlike Trua and Nalani’s eyepatches which are much thicker and rounder. Malia’s right eyepatch has one small notch in the front and her left eyepatch has two small “line” notches in it. (Both of her eyepatches look a LOT like Makaio’s!) Her flukes and dorsal have no obvious marks, nicks, or defining features.
This seriously helps me. I am so bad at identifying orcas.
