worldofatravelholic So even though we're on holidays it doesn't mean resting, quite the opposite. We're getting up at 5:30AM almost every day, if lucky at 6:00AM. Last night we thought that it would be a good idea to get a guided tour around Phnom Penh so we sent them.a request at 10:00PM and luckily enough we could go on the tour. So the morning was pretty rainy which means muddy roads - whatever more adventure ahead for us, right? What we didn't know was that the tour was actually very adventurous as we visited some island villages - so interesting...and not to forget our guide was AWESOME! itsz_ayu Day 2 -Killing Field- | 26 April 2015 | "The Killing Fields are a number of sites inCambodia where collectively more than a million people were killed and buried by the Communist Khmer Rouge regime, during its rule of the country from 1975 to 1979, immediately after the end of theCambodian Civil War (1970–1975). The mass killings are widely regarded as part of a broad state sponsored genocide" #phnompenh #killingfield #travelling #holidays #healing #tripber5 #overlandtrip #adventour 53min

nlhucker Not the nicest of photos to see, but I think it's important to remember and think about those that died under such a horrendous and brutal regime. In three years, eight months and 20 days, it is thought that the Khmer Rouge killed around 3 million Khmer people across Cambodia. They were tortured at places like S-21 and then taken to killing fields, the killing field at Phnom Penh are just one of many. These skulls were recovered from mass graves at the Phnom Penh killing fields, each person who's skull is in the photo was killed using torturous methods, they did not use guns as bullets were 'too expensive to waste'. 1h

Video Benkiki Di Montessus
emmanueltravelphotographer November 2007, photos of the victims of the Khmer Rouge line the wall of the Tuol sleng genocide museum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The site is a former high school which was used as the notorious security prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from its rise to power in 1975 to its fall in 1979. An estimated of 17000 people were imprisoned in the prison. They were repeatedly tortured and coerced into naming family members and close associates, who were in turn arrested, tortured and killed. Upon arrival at the prison, prisoners were photographed and required to give detailed autobiographies.
