In recognition of Memorial Day approaching let's remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This week I'm honoring Navy SEAL Chief (SOC) Adam L. Brown who was killed in action in Komar Province, Afghanistan on March 17th, 2010. Adam died a true hero, placing himself in the line of fire to protect other members of his unit during an assault on an enemy compound.

princedavisallen When people asked me what my bracelet symbolized, My response is that I honor the American heroes who swore on the enlisted oath to battle all foreign and domestic enemies that tries to harm us. LCpl Justin J. Swanson is one of the American heroes I met and fought beside, and along with my fellow brothers and sisters with different last names and ethnicities from 1st Battalion 5th Marines. I met a great man who's humble and unselfish. I'll be happy to educate those who don't know what the memorial bracelet symbolized. Rest eazy, Swanson. #restinpeace #memorialday #fallenheroes #guardianangel #usmarines #marinecorps #rip #veteransmemorial #veterans #fallenbrother #oef2009 #1stbn5thmarines #operationstrikeofthesword #operationenduringfreedom #vihalla #americanhero 10h

britecharles81 We were not in the same unit. But I was based at #CampSalerno in #Afghanistan with this young lady. She was a #CombatMedic from #10thMoutainDivision. She got promoted to Sgt and was killed on a convoy by a roadside bomb a few days later. #RIPSgtWakkunaJackson (KIA) 2006 Afghanistan #OperationEnduringFreedom #OEF #MemorialDay #UnitedStatesArmy #USArmy 19h

historicalpast 6 years ago today on May 27, 2010, the world lost a brave soul and a heroic soldier. U.S. Marine Corporal Jacob C. Leicht was counted as the 1,000th United States servicemember Killed in Action during Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
Jacob grew up in my hometown, was a next-door neighbor, and he and his family our dear friends. Jacob was born on the 4th of July and as his older brother Jonathan said, "He wanted to be a soldier from the moment he could speak." Jacob was offered a full Navy ROTC scholarship for college but he turned it down to instead enlist into the Marine Corps. He was deployed to Iraq in 2007 but had been there only a few short weeks when he drove over to 500 pound IEDs buried beneath the road. The resulting blast snapped Jacob's tibia and fibula and his recovery was an agonizing two years of recovery. But even after suffering such a terrible wound, Jacob was not finished serving his country. He launched a campaign from his hospital room, asking for a return to the front lines. After three years of surgery and therapy, he was finally able to serve again. Jacob's wish was granted and he was deployed for the second time, this time, Afghanistan. But he was there for only a few months when he was killed in action by yet another roadside bomb.
Jacob died on May 27, three days before Memorial Day, while in the service of his country. My outlook on Memorial Day was forever changed in 2010, for Jacob truly embodied the words of Thucydides that "The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it." Jacob's story reminds us all of TRUE sacrifice. Freedom is not free.
RIP Jacob - you are NEVER forgotten. Semperfi!

krystal_klear_images1 "There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you've ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater." || As we enter this #MemorialDay weekend I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on the service members who've given the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Take a moment to remember those #goldstar families who have lost someone they love. This holiday is a time for America to remember those lives but for those families their loved one is never forgotten. Every birthday, every major milestone and every holiday that person is remembered. Their absence felt. This weekend isn't about barbecuing or going to the beach it isnt about going to the pool or days off work. It's to remember the brave men and women who laid down their life for their country. Take a moment, reflect, have a drink in rememberence of them. They're the ultimate definition of a hero. || Rest In Peace: Donald Vincent Stacey. 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; died June 28 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
