matthewadam7 It's quite #ironic that I'm sitting at table #42 at the #human #rights #campaign when #jackierobinson (#42) was a #humanrights #bellwether for #baseball. So #grateful to have been invited. #equality for all. 2h

professor_nyembo The Negro leagues were United States professional baseball leagues comprising teams predominantly made up of African Americans. During the late 1800s blacks were not being accepted into the major and minor baseball leagues, therefore they formed their own professional teams. However, economic realities, travel and lodging difficulties posed by segregation, and the logistics of travel made it hard to establishment of any solid baseball circuit. In 1885, The Babylon Black Panthers were the first black professional baseball team. After the integration of professional baseball the talent level on the Negro League teams weakened tremendously, also the interest of black fans was quickly drawn away from the Negro Leagues as they focused their interest on the performance of Jackie Robinson and other black pioneers in the major leagues. The Negro National League folded after the 1948 season. The last All-Star game was held in 1962, and by 1966 the Indianapolis Clowns were the last Negro league team still playing. The Clowns continued to play exhibition games into the 1980s, but as a humorous sideshow rather than a competitive sport.

billypruzxvx Black History Month is technically over after today, but heroes like Earl Lloyd should be remembered every day. SYRACUSE people and basketball fans in particular. #315

Only 3 and a half years after #jackierobinson #42 broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball, Earl Lloyd did the same in professional basketball- with less fanfare and books and movies made about him. It happened in 1950; one of the worst years of segregation and racial violence. If it weren't for him, so many great people who have made their fame and fortunes through the NBA wouldn't have had that chance. #michaeljordan #lebronjames #kobebryant
The first pro court to ever have a Black man step foot on it was in Rochester, NY. Earl Lloyd played for the 1955 Championship-winning Syracuse Nationals :) Awesome hometown history. Awesome achievements for the Black race and every race.

stephenhillacts You can learn just as much if not more from the roles you don't book as you can from those you do. I remember thinking this was going to be it. I was so prepared for this, years of preparation. All things Jackie Robinson related seemed to gravitate toward me with ease as if I was magnetized to portray this man. I was drawn to the love story...the story of his unbearable task made possible by the woman that stood by his side. When I didnt get a chance to play him in the big leagues I wanted to quit the game of acting all together. Then I thought...not being able to PLAY a great man isnt the point...the point is to BE a great man...in real life. I decided not to quit. I kept swinging. I keep swinging. #jackierobinsonmystory #stephenhillactor 9h
