tanyalauraw Living with Hyper-Mobility:
Apologies to those who find this a bit gross.
So up until recently-ish I was not aware that being able to do things like these in your adult life was not normal! Hypermobility, being double-jointed, really flexible or whichever other term you wish to use, served me well during my dance years, but can potentially be a hinderance in any other sports.
Symptoms of hypermobility, caused by our unstable joints include: - Joint instability causing frequent sprains, tendinitis, or bursitis when doing activities that would not affect others️ (yup)
- Joint pain ️ (check)
- Subluxations or dislocations, especially in the shoulder ️ -Knee pain
- Back pain
- Joints that make clicking noises️ - Susceptibility to whiplash
- The ability of finger locking ️ (as you can see from this picture on the right)

Although for those 'suffering' with this condition there is no cure as such, physical activity including weightlifting to strengthen muscles, yoga and physical therapy can make your life a lot easier.
I will add being a tough cookie and not letting your injuries phase you aids on the way to recovery as well. It does get to a point when its 'just another sprain' and you know you can deal with it.
If anyone else feels they can relate and want some advice I would always contact your doctor in first instance. Learning to manage your symptoms is always the best approach.
