fawnfatinky This is the view the prisoners would've seen on the way to their cells. Minus the throng of tourists and gondola traffic...and lower sea level perhaps. 3h

fawnfatinky The Bridge of Sighs. Looks pretty, no? But its history doesn't reflect its beauty. Built in 1600, the bridge connects the Doges Palace to the Prigioni - the prisons that were built in the late 16th century (white building to your right). Legend has it that the prisoners would sigh as they catch their last glimpse of the outside world while being led from the interrogation rooms in the palace to their prison cells. 4h

sad_teens_world «The view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge name, given by Lord Byron as a translation from the Italian “Ponte dei Sospiri” in the 19tj century, come from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice through the window before being taken down to their cells.»
