When most think of Roland Garros, it's the clay court stadium in Paris and the French Open tennis tournament that usually comes to mind. Most won't know the man that famous Stadium was named after.

On September 23, 1913, just two weeks before his 25th birthday, the real Roland Garros piloted his model H Morane-Saulnier monoplane across the Mediterranean Sea. The Frenchman, who would later go onto to fly, fight, and die as a fighter pilot in WW1, was the first man to do it, flying from Fréjus in the south of France to Bizerte in Tunisia.|

___________
Its a late July morning in 1944. Hitler wakes from his drug induced sleep. His mood is seemingly calm at first, but as everyone close to him knows, within him hides a simmering tirade yet to be unleashed again. Nearly killed in a bomb plot against him less than a week before, he's still suffering physically and has become ever more paranoid, distant and distrustful. The news coming out of the Eastern front over the last few weeks hadn't improved things in the slightest. Awaiting the Führer were nervous staff bearing more bad news, this time from Normandy. The Americans had effected a breakout near Saint-Lô. The longest summer was about to get a whole lot worse.... Pictured here is the real "Fury". An M4 Sherman of F Company, 66th Armoured Regiment, 2nd Armoured Division during Operation Cobra. Heavy with a few watchful tank riders, the American tank advances through the tall grass driving deep into German lines.|
