johnyunis Quinta Patino: Part 6A of 24: Library. This is the Horst pic (sorry about the quality), taken when Antenor was still alive and the collection intact. In the Horst book, it's listed under the 1960's- so this photo was taken at least 20 years earlier than the photo in part 6 (of the same room, taken in the opposite direction). Here the room is breathtaking. Pride of place is given to the extraordinary Boulle bureau plat, one of the most important pieces of French furniture in any collection, public or private. The Savonnerie carpet is huge and extraordinary. On either side of the doorway are what appear to be a pair of boulle cabinets with a pair of interesting and and unusual candelabra on top. Barely visible in front of the left cabinet is what appears to be a small Boulle table, with another pair of candelabra. Above the pair of Boulle cabinets appear to be a matching set of a Boulle clock and barometer. And, of course, the giltwood seat furniture. Note that I'm almost certain that this image was reversed- accidentally or otherwise lol- and that the image in part 6 is correct. If you are on an iPad, through the door opening, you can see the famous Beauvais tapestries in the Drawing Room. #quintapatino #patino #estoril #portugal #palace #mansion #estate #library #books #bronze #french #18thcentury #17thcentury #handpainted #candelabra #lacquer #spanish #jansen #maisonjansen #chandelier #boulle #bureauplat #desk #cabinets #giltwood #savonnerie 6h
  •   irisscott7 There was another shot, where he rug was also huge. How did they even make them that large? When I look at these pics I always get my iPad! 23min

  •   jimandgary All that Boulle is no bull. Not a fan of the ceiling. Much too distracting and heavy. @johnyunis ️😎👬 10min

johnyunis Quinta Patino: Part 6 of 24: Library. This room is one of my all-time favorites. It is a scaled down version of the 17th century University Library at Coimbra, in the same pine needle green and gold finish as the original, and done superbly. While the leather bound, gold tooled books from the royal collections of France and Spain remain here and add considerably to the atmosphere, the important furniture, art and bronzes are gone. Nonetheless, a ravishing room, with its leopard velvet covered fauteuils and needlepoint carpet. #quintapatino #patino #estoril #portugal #palace #mansion #estate #library #books #bronze #french #18thcentury #17thcentury #handpainted #murals #lacquer #spanish #jansen #maisonjansen #chandelier 6h

johnyunis Quinta Patino: Part 5 of 24: Small Dining Room. Glass- fronted cabinets contain china with Patino monograms. Note the table, which appears to be at least partly bronze and seems to come apart in sections- perhaps by Jansen? The chairs are 18th century French. Also note the highly lacquered ceiling. #quintapatino #patino #estoril #portugal #palace #mansion #estate #diningroom #dining #bronze #french #18thcentury #17thcentury #handpainted #murals #lacquer #spanish #jansen #maisonjansen 12h
  •   johnyunis @johnfboone Looks like something that you should make It's a tiny photo that I've made larger – still not easy to tell if the top is actually inset wood or if the entire table is bronze 12h

  •   johnyunis @gustthepoodle After Antenor's death, the large property was turned into a housing development with houses and condos- the development is called Quinta Patino . After Beatriz moved to a smaller house within the development (smaller by Patino standards- 20,000 sq ft - lol) in the Early '90's, I believe, the house itself, on a reduced property, was sold – perhaps to casino magnate Stanley Ho. Not sure who owns it now, but it does still exist. The house that Beatriz moved to is still for sale, I believe. She died in 2009- not sure when it came on the market. 7h

ruthwatkincostumes How on earth do you photograph a black and white dress?

I either get far too bright white, or far too dark black, never simultaneous detail on both. Maybe it's a combo beyond the capabilities of a smart phone camera?

Anyway, I'm onto a new dress, an English civil war era, rich puritan lady. This is all the lovely sleeve gathering.
