Lo-fi quantum_entanglement_
quantum_entanglement_ Happy Easter/Pascha/Ishtar/ Pesach, everyone! On this mystical spring day, I'd like to bring to light a few of the mystical roots that served as the crux modern day Christian holiday of Easter. Many historians contend that Easter finds its origins in an ancient Babylonian/Assyrian goddess Ishtar whose name is pronounced "Easter" or the Anglo-Saxon goddess Ēostre, from which it is argued Easter may have derived its name. While the latter was often associated with dawn and the sun, both goddesses were associated with fertility (of the land and the human race) and spring time. Even an association with the rising sun has roots for the celebration of Easter as those examining the Judeo-Christian and monotheistic religions from their roots in pagan origins and an astronomical perspective put forth that the Son of God, Jesus, is analogous to the sun and that Easter and the rising of Christ is a parallel for the rising of the sun after it lowering consistently and then apparently stilling in the sky for 3 days after the winter solstice. 8mon
  •   quantum_entanglement_ The date of Easter as modern Christians celebrate is variable, as most are aware -- but it is lesser known that it's date was changed by Constantine at the Council of Nicaea to deviate from the Jewish calculation of the Nisan month as it was believed to be less accurate by the Christian institution. This portion of the calendar was calculated off of the mystical tradition (mysticism was originally heavily integrated with Jewish tradition in the Kabbalah) of the Nisan shaman who resurrected of a well-to-do man's son. Resurrection of an important man's son setting the timing for the celebration of the resurrection of the son of important figure - God. Seeing any parallels? 8mon
  •   quantum_entanglement_ Finally, springtime is associated with warmth, fertility and the return of the sun and crops, which all were important to ancient societies that had more reliance on the environment. All of these mystical and pagan practices offer thanks for the coming of spring and the rising of the sun again in a way that the Christian Church has adapted while still keeping consistent with elements such timing and expression of fertility, such as the symbol of the egg. Is it not truly incredible how learning about your faith and practice can make you see how interconnected all faiths and people really are at the origin of things instead of being closed off to those that don't hold your beliefs? We are all celebrating the same holiday of fertility, gratitude, and warmth, and we were the last to adapt the trend. 8mon

sid5ly #ostara or #Ēostre
is a Germanic divinity who, by way of the Germanic month bearing her name is the namesake of the festival of Easter. Ēostre is attested solely by Bede in his 8th-century work The Reckoning of Time, where Bede states that during Ēosturmōnaþ (the equivalent of April), pagan Anglo-Saxons had held feasts in Eostre's honor, but that this tradition had died out by his time, replaced by the Christian Paschal month, a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.

stuartoswald Feeling #fresh and #new. #Beautiful #Catholic service today. "I am the resurrection and the #life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he #live". (John 11:25 ESV)

#Easter (Old English #Ēostre), also called the #Pasch or #Pascha (the two latter names derived, through Latin: Pascha and Greek Πάσχα #Paskha, from Hebrew: פֶּסַח‎ #Pesaḥ), or #ResurrectionSunday, is a #festival and holiday #celebrating the #resurrection of #Jesus #Christ from the dead, described in the #NewTestament as having occurred three days after his #crucifixion by #Romans at #Calvary. It is the culmination of the #PassionofChrist, preceded by #Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, #prayer, and #penance.
