zswire Feeding a Rothschild giraffe at the Giraffe Center in Lang'ata suburb of Nairobi. Last stop before we travel home. Amazing trip to Kenya, but certainly can't wait to see my family at home. 1mon
  •   kgaulton Aren't they sweet? 1mon
  •   zswire @kgaulton all but this one haha - that's what the guy working there told us. He just wanted food and no petting or taking pics. 1mon

zswire Meet Abel Green, artisan that has been working with @shopwithamission for 8 years providing unique wire frame designs - he supports his wife and four children, providing three meals a day and is able to pay for their education. #HTkenya #reachmorehearts 1mon

zswire Last stop of our #HTkenya trip was to Abel and Liz Green of Gonga Waya Designs in Ngando. He's traditionally made hammered wires frames but has recently expanded his vision to include wood designs and other items such as this custom made guest book. #reachmorehearts #wireframes #woodenframes #artisan #kenya #guestbook 1mon

zswire We were all so impressed with Cameron Ortiz and his family. Cameron raised over $1,200 with his middle school boys bible study at Williamette Christian Church, his West Linn Wylde life group and via family and friends, to put on this 'Be the Change' tournament. His father and mother, Matt and Annika, had both spent years with the Teimuge family in Illula so this trip was a reunion of sorts, with them bringing all three children time time around. Matt worked with Tim Tim of A-Step and Kigen of Heavenly Treasures to make this event possible. It was a huge success and amazing to witness the joy it brought so many children in Eldoret, Kenya. #bethechange #changethefuture #reachmorehearts #htkenya #soccer #youthsoccer 1mon

zswire Some highlights of the 'Be the Change' soccer tournament on Sunday. Notice that many of the players played without shoes and the keeper had just one shoe. #HTKenya #reachmorehearts #soccer #bethechange #playtogetherpraytogether #changethefuture 1mon

zswire This past Sunday, we took part in the 'Be the Change' soccer tournament in Illulu, Kenya - it was a joint effort of A-Step, the Ortiz Family and Heavenly Treasures. Each child received a shirt, bag and medal. For many of the children, this was the first time they've received something new. The entire tournament spanned one month from start to finish. A-Step plans to continue to build on the momentum with the teams' coaches. Two of the teams were comprised of 'street kids' - children who live on the street and who wouldn't normally be invited or included in this sort of activity. Yet, when all together, they were all simply children - not school kids and street kids, just kids. #HTKenya #reachmorehearts #soccer #changelives 1mon

zswire Second stop was to visit with Mugo Stone, an incredible self-trained artist who has been working with @shopwithamission for three years but painting for nearly twenty. He originally began when he realized that selling one piece would equate to one months wages - less than $100. His studio lies within the slums of Guithrai. Twenty minutes later, we're having lunch at a nice mall - such a weird juxtaposition from 3rd to 1st world so close by. #HTKenya #reachmorehearts #kenyanart 1mon
  •   kgaulton Best photo of mugo ever! 1mon
  •   zswire @kgaulton he's very talented and it's amazing to see where he works from. 1mon

zswire First stop was to Hakuna Matata Arts to visit George Njoroge and his talented artist welders - who work from the slums in Githurai to create incredible scrap metal animals and other works of art. The welding is done via jumper cables tied to a live metal wall directly behind them. #HTKenya #reachmorehearts #mostdangerousstop #donttouchthewall 1mon

zswire Roadside view of stores and a hotel heading out of Eldoret. Many people live and work alongside the roads in what we'd consider in the US to be unlivable conditions. It's tough to imagine until you've visited. Pictures don't do it justice. #HTKenya #reachmorehearts 1mon

zswire Another typical scene on our drives between artisans. Many use inexpensive Chinese motorbikes and carry wood or in this case coal in bags. This is a relatively small load in comparison to some we saw. I can't imagine balancing it with the rough conditions of the dirt roads. For those who couldn't afford motorbikes, we saw bicycles and carts carrying the same and women carrying heavy packages on their heads while walking. #reachmorehearts #HTKenya #kenya #thinkyourjobistough #unhappywithyourroads 1mon
