zombiebait A disrespected Bushwick Collective mural by Chilean artist Dasic Fernández. The bandana mask is a nod to late night graffiti writers. The colors and oozing black liquid-- A message for people to think outside the box? Or is it oil? You decide. ZEXOR, who dissed this wall, seems to have focused his wrath *mostly* on non local artists with no street cred, but Dasic Fernández actually has a long history of non-sanctioned street art. 14h
  •   michaelwcole Interesting. 14h
  •   mimireilly free speech? we had this happen in St Pete recently. i can't totally disagree with a dis. public art belongs to the public. i do hate to see great art work spoiled, but it does make me think. and that's one of art's jobs 11h

zombiebait ***The Bushwick Collective is getting 'defaced' -- graffiti writer ZEXOR has been disrupting the intricate murals.*** ZEXOR sees the Bushwick Collective as a form of gentrification. The "curator" and lifelong Bushwick resident Joe Ficalora doesn't give walls to traditional graffiti writers and he doesn't allow subject matter that is too politically offensive or looks too much like graffiti---you have to admit how funny that is. Anyway, right or wrong, ZEXOR is bringing this matter to light the old fashion way. The graffiti way. 2d

  •   photofrazzle Is this a @pixelpancho piece?! I'm not sure I'm liking this Zexor 2d
  •   realstreetart @photofrazzle yeah its a collabo @pixelpancho and @case_maclaim 2d
  •   zombiebait @lizzyyoder Well said :) 2d
  •   lauraevhess Hmm. I don't agree with Zexor's attack on the murals; it seems like a cheap shot. While folks may not agree with Joe Ficalora's parameters, murals themselves aren't the problem--or even necessarily a sign of gentrification. Take a look at the murals in the Skid Row area of LA, especially the collaboration between El Mac and Retna. More than 4 years later, it's well preserved. Shouldn't everyone have access to great art? 1d
  •   zombiebait @lauraevhess Very true. And as I read your comment, I just remembered a mural by Icy & Sot, which Ficorola green lit last year...they painted a pro-Gaza mural featuring a Palestinian freedom fighter — who was not sporting Hamas colors. That wall certainly challenged viewers. 14h

  •   zombiebait @zackrelidge Oh yeah? This wall made me think of tattooer Jon Clue. Ten+ years ago, I remember he was doing really metallic vines and insects in repetitive patterns. I think he was reinventing biomech using plants and insects. 3w
