xlil I couldn't find the name of this dish on Russo & Russo's online menu (which changes frequently, as I have since discovered). I vaguely recall salted caramel, butter, popcorn and pecans, all of which are enough to make me pick the dish without further consideration. This was also a bit saltier than I would have liked. 3d

xlil Semifreddo - Chocolate, Marsala, Prunes, Coffee, Wattleseed, Pinenut and Cocoa Nib Crumble. Great dessert for chocolate lovers who don't like it too sweet never knew prunes went well with chocolate and coffee, but it works! This looks like one of Russo & Russo's signatures, judging from Instagram hashtags. 3d

xlil Caponata - Eggplant with Flavours of Caponata, Buffalo Ricotta Salata, Native Tomato. I absolutely love eggplant (but bf does not; he let me choose this because he knew I love it). So plump and juicy. Bf said the sauce was good despite not liking the eggplant itself. Also, apologies for the not-so-great lighting; that white stick in the background is actually the candlestick lighting our spot at the restaurant's bar. 5d

xlil Fregola - Toasted Sardinian Pasta, QLD Spanner Crab, Corn, Almonds, Cured Egg Yolk, House Bottarga. Wow, textures of this dish were amazing. There was crunchiness, chewiness, softness and something (presumably the corn) popping in the mouth!! So much going on but it was great. Flavour wise, it was a tad on the saltier side. Less salt would have allowed the other flavours to come through a bit more. 5d

xlil Polpo - Chargrilled Fremantle Octopus, Nduja Salami, Aglio Bianco, Dried Olive, Cucumber, Dill. The octopus was so tender! No sinewy bits (pet hate). Chargrill flavour wasn't overpowering the rest of the flavours. So lovely! All dishes are made to share at this restaurant. Wish we got more than just a tentacle between the two of us, but I guess that only adds to the intimacy of sharing food. 5d

xlil The inner west is full of surprises, including this cosy and romantic little Italian restaurant in Enmore called Osteria di Russo & Russo. I was fortunate to be surprised with dinner here by my bf for my birthday ^_^ As always, we start with oysters. These are Sydney Rock Oysters with Finger Lime, Grappa, ALTO Chardonnay Vinegar. I love how they are presented on a bed of shells. 5d

xlil Inside shot of apam balik @hawkermalaysian. Who knew peanuts and creamed corn could be friends? Clearly the Malaysians do. 5d

xlil This was the dish that first peaked our interest in @hawkermalaysian. Apam Balik - crispy 'turnover' pancake with crushed peanuts, butter and creamed corn. We loved it! I especially enjoyed the crispiness of the pancake. The creamed corn somehow managed to belong in this dessert. Haha. 5d

xlil Assam Laksa - thick rice noodles in a spicy, sour and pungent fish-based soup with shredded fish, fresh cucumber, lettuce, pineapple and mint @hawkermalaysian. Yum! A good alternative to curry laksa. Less heavy and more dimensional in flavour. 5d

xlil My teh @hawkermalaysian. @nancyychen had the cham ping (half coffee and half tea) which was much sweeter than expected! Great drinks to go with spicy food. 5d

xlil Or Chien - fried starch omelette with Sydney rock oysters and spicy sambal @hawkermalaysian. @nancyychen and I were super amused to see four oysters plopped on top of the omelette. We had assumed they would be mixed into the omelette. The omelette was a tad crispy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. Really liked this dish! Something a little different from other Malaysian dishes I have tried and reminds me of Taiwanese oyster omelettes. 5d
  •   cupcakiedolly I went to taipei a few years ago and their oyster omelette is to die for @xlil 5d
  •   xlil @cupcakiedolly I know!! They do it so well! It is so cheap too!! 5d
  •   kapersofkaren @xlil so what's the verdict for hawker Malaysian? Worth a try? I always walk past it but not sure whether I shall give it a go. 5d
  •   xlil @kapersofkaren Definitely worth a try! There are alot of dishes on the menu that I haven't come across before (though I am no Malaysian food expert). Enjoyed all the dishes I had and it is relatively cheap for the amount of food! 5d
  •   kapersofkaren @xlil awesome! Will take your words for it and give it a try! 5d

xlil I love my food adventures with @nancyychen. We decided to trek out to @hawkermalaysian one lazy Saturday night to try some different Malaysian snacks. First on the menu was popiah - fresh spring rolls with yambean, shredded omelette, minced tofu, lettuce and crispy shallots. The skin was so thin and delicate! A really light dish; good snack to start our meal. 5d

xlil Tagliatelle with duck ragu, pancetta and sage at Cafe Sopra (Bridge St) @fratellifresh. Was a bit disappointed with this one as the pasta was overcooked. Plenty of duck though. 1w

xlil Baked semolina gnocchi with buffalo mozzarella and tomato at Cafe Sopra (Bridge St) @fratellifresh. I felt like eating carbs and my eyes were instantly drawn to the word 'gnocchi' on the menu! Have not tried gnocchi in moon shapes before! Hehe! This is a very homey dish. 1w

xlil Cafe Sopra @fratellifresh has always been a choice that comes to mind when in the mood for something a little fancy but not too expensive. Came here after my Admission (and some celebratory shopping) a month ago. @geeeoh3 hadn't tried zucchini flowers before so we got them... stuffed with four cheeses. Incredibly cheesy, arguably more so than he is. 1w

xlil Best enjoyed with ice cream. Good dessert for when you can't decide between hot or cold. Why not have both?? 1w

xlil Green curry at Chum Tang. Plenty of chicken slices. Not bad but dishes here are a tad pricey for what they are. I guess that is North Shore dining. 1w
