xiaodiwong i think it is only right to share extraordinary sceneries or places to other human beings so that they can go experience by themselves. to learn, to discover, is the core of a human being. and only the hardworking ones will find these places by themselves. 6h

xiaodiwong do you think it is possible for us to get too comfortable with being alone?
i mean humans are social bunnies and i too thrive on spending time with friends hanging out, since we barely got anything to do at home other than finding jobs and clearing our rooms etc, i miss them all together just not seeing them for a day or two, and including others which i havent ketchup yet.
but then again it seems possible. possible to be comfortable of being alone. because why, the whole idea of connecting with someone else is so so tiring.
this is just something i'd observed for some time already.
what do you think?

xiaodiwong Served an ultimatum on a silver platter
I was on a plate but it doesn't matter
You can cut the cord on me but I got plenty
And hindsight sees in twenty-twenty

I'm through
Thinking 'bout you
I'm through
Thinking 'bout you
Oh I'm through
Thinking 'bout you
I'm through
Thinking 'bout you
I'm through
Thinking 'bout you

All we wanna do who who who who
who who who who
But I'm through
But I'm through
Thinking 'bout you

xiaodiwong for me, other than the general design of this "BEGIN: The Thoughts and Works of Nathan Yong" book, or rather, it is the content which attracted me. it is an account of the creative journey from his humble beginnings to where he is now, his creative struggles and hopes for Asian/local design.

i find his experiences and insights about the challenges he faced, are still relevant or even more so to us younger generation. i could almost hear him giving the advices face to face while reading (just that ive never hear from before ) and i also think the stuff he said doesn't only apply to design but also photography and other art forms as well. inspiring ️ and the next step is to find where to buy this book 🏼

Design Graduates Don’t Have To Become Designers

Singapore’s universities and polytechnics are churning out a huge volume of design graduates every year. Let’s say that on average, one batch of students contains three classes of thirty students. That’s ninety students graduating from one school alone. We have five schools with industrial design courses. Are there that many industrial design jobs available?

Graduates shouldn’t think that they can only become an industrial or furniture designer. That’s quite a narrow-minded way of looking at the industry. Everyone is cut out for different things, and people need to find their own passions in the design field. You could work in design marketing, merchandising, design writing, or manage a design showroom or a furniture company. Lecturers need to inspire students and make them aware that practicing design after graduation is not the only thing they can do with their skill set.

Design Takes Time

Designers also need to manage their careers with an awareness of the condition of Singapore’s design industry and culture. The rapid engineering of a creative hub, as has been happening in Singapore over the last decade, offers benefits as well as some dangers. I’ve always believed that design and art should grow from the grassroots in an organic way. This creates a stronger base. If an industry grows too quickly, its foundation maybe unstable. Designers need to apply measured judgement in terms of the steps they take in their careers and the opportunities they embrace. Graduates need to understand the industry in order to chart their course.

Furthermore, the fast pace and competitive nature of this city is not necessarily helpful to the building of awareness and sensitivity in one’s design practice. I believe that design takes time. When you create a concept, you may not want to produce it immediately. You may want to sit on it for three months, six months, even a year. You have to let the product take its time to develop fully through reflection. However, in a very competitive environment with few clients and short deadlines, it’s not possible to take the time to digest your design. This is a paradox that new designers must resolve for themselves.

I’m lucky that most of my creations are for my own brands. In the cases where I work with other brands, they are using designs that I had already digested and sent to them. I’m fortunate to have a multifaceted business, because it provides the financial support that allows me to take my time with the design process.
