xandreborg Colombians are amazing people. Passionate, welcoming, full of joy, wild - it's intoxicating and contagious. At almost every bar George and I went to we had an army of friends by the time we left. Was handed this note by our friend Sebastian in a bar in Bogotá. 4w

xandreborg Andrés Felipe owns and operates this farm.
Here he is picking ripe cherries for us to hold, examine, taste...
Most are still green/not ripe

xandreborg More on the coffee process: beans drying on the side of the mountain in Concordia. All the squares are actually massive drawers that can be pulled in and out depending on the weather. It's very hot here so drying doesn't take too long.

xandreborg The cherries from a #coffee tree. You can see the crushed fruit with seeds in the back. Next stop is washing, removing mucilage then drying, sorting high quality beans from low quality then sending the green coffee to the co-op to distribute. (Almost all the good stuff gets exported).

  •   erinrgrant You can use the cherry as a cascara tea. Fun fact, cascara tea is the only caffeinated herbal tea... And extremely delicious 4w

xandreborg #coffee farm in Concordia, Colombia. 2 hours outside Medellin. This is the very top -about 6300 ft elevation. Every year on March 3rd they place a cross in the ground for good luck in the coming harvest.
Stood up on the back of a truck racing up windy, rocky dirt roads to get up here. Volcano erupted here hundreds of years ago so the soil is rich. The colors are spectacular. The smell is thick and wild. Birds everywhere, more species in Colombia than anywhere else in South America. Relentless heat.
I started drinking coffee around 16 or 17. On the low end that means about 4-5 thousand cups of coffee. First time I've touched the plant which bears the fruit with the seeds that get picked, washed, dried, roasted and ground... #coffeeisawaytostealtime
