  •   wvangler @pfitzpatrick thanks Pat. She is 4 months old as of last week and some days I want to choke her and some days I wouldn't take a million dollars for her. You know how it is. Super excited to get her on birds soon 2w

wvangler One year ago today, hundreds of thousands lost access to clean water due to a massive chemical spill in #WV. Soon after, the legislature held a hearing. These were my words: "I am Philip Smith, Chair of WV Council of Trout Unlimited speaking on behalf of our 1,600 members.
According to Congressional Sportsman Foundation research there are more than 364,000 hunters and anglers spending $1.5 billion per year in West Virginia. Annual spending by hunters and anglers equals 40% of our state’s mining gross state product.
Our top concern as sportsmen is the priority of reasonable policy in protecting cold, clean, fishable water in West Virginia. This state has an established history of substandard rules and arbitrary enforcement of Clean Water Act. Sportsmen now call upon the legislature to be diligent in ensuring clean headwaters on both public and private land.
There must be questions about how the WV DEP prioritizes their inspections. The DEP is underfunded and understaffed, but DEP should be asked why they are pushing an aluminum bill that is specifically designed to cater to industry and weaken protection for aquatic life – specifically the aquatic life that makes up a large component of the $1.5 billion in spending that I referenced earlier. Why is this a good time to pursue weakened water protections? Recent events indicate that more protections are needed, no less.
SB 373 needs to address regulation for all tanks and all potential point sources for contamination of our streams and rivers. At Freedom Industries, even a cursory inspection would have generated a long list of violations based on the requirements of the WV Groundwater Protection Act and their stormwater permit. It is evident that continuing to do what we’ve been doing is unacceptable. #wvwatercrisis #troutunlimited #cleanwater #protect

wvangler Keep forgetting to send the #wv assortment of #trout #flies to @troutunlimited for the new Arlington Headquarters of TU. They will be displaying local trout flies from each state. I'm sure some of my mountain state fellows may contest my selection, but I say volunteer as a leader in TU and you can have input ha ha 3mon
