wholesomecook HELP! Came home from a spring afternoon walk to find this wonderful care package from @Nespresso - including their new (and my current favourite) #Cubania coffee blend, some family reserve rum and these beautifully fragrant #tonkabeans from @EsntlIngredient >>>Have you used tonka beans before? What did you make? 3d
  •   thehungrybabushka I'd use them finely grated in any recipe you'd use vanilla. Very sparingly though - they're really strong! Also, you must make sure it's cooked through as they are toxic when eaten raw. I love making macaroons (not fancy macarons, the rough, coconut type) with them. Also works well with braised chicken recipes 2d
  •   wholesomecook @thehungrybabushka Oooh! Thank you so much for all the tips! Macaroons sound heavenly. 2d
  •   wholesomecook @thehungrybabushka as does the chicken!!! 2d

  •   esntlingredient Tonka beans are one of our favourites! We've seen them used in savoury French stews, chocolate truffles, crème brulee and plenty more, but our favourite would have to be tonka bean ice cream! 2d
  •   wholesomecook @esntlingredient Oooh! Brûlée was one of my ideas, but with this warm weather ice cream sounds nice too. Thanks for your suggestions (and making this beautiful ingredient available to us). 2d

wholesomecook Fresh from the earth. It smells divine. >>>This beautiful young purple garlic, which I grew in a simple box planter outside over winter and picked fresh today will go into our eggplant stew tonight. >>>What's growing in your veggie patch? 5d
  •   cookrepublic So stunning Marty! x we have only just begun planting a garden that went to waste over the past 6 months. We are also rescuing our rosemary bushes, digging them up and planting them in pots before they get demolished during the deck construction. I would love to grow garlic. Does it take super long? 5d
  •   wholesomecook @cookrepublic hi Sneh, thank you! You have to plant it around April because the cloves need to stay in ground over winter, and pick from September. You might have some luck storing planted cloves in the fridge overnight and in a cool spot in the day for a few months, but I'm not sure if it would trick them. Make sure to use organic Aussie garlic if planting store-bought cloves to avoid foreign pest infestation. This particular one had about 9 small cloves inside. I'm trying to plant a lot more things this year and hoping to look after them too. Travel gets in the way of that sometimes. :-/ 5d
  •   sundaymorningcoffee_ I've got some celeriac growing very slowly - hopefully it will kick in over spring. 5d
  •   wholesomeireland As we're in a different season here I've just finished the Autumn harvest. Tomatoes, peppers, chillis, potatoes, onions, squash, cucumber & quite a lot of herbs. Our patch is an allotment and feeds us well the year around. 5d

wholesomecook About to roast these baby Dutch carrots from the market for an afternoon snack. >>>Drizzle them with a little @_brookfarm_ macadamia oil which is high in omega3s, sprinkle with a little sea salt (or ground cumin) and roast for 15 minutes. They go meltingly soft and sweet and the greens turn into carrot top "crisps". <<<Roasting them helps release more nutrients. And consuming them with some fat helps with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A and K.
