wholelarderlove Here are two chorizo inspired sausages made by my dear friends @tammois and her meat apprentice @growyourspace
I poached them in a gravy made of onions, carrots and wild mushrooms. The gravy was left over from ingredients that I braised two of my back yard geese a few nights ago.
I swapped a hat full of wild mushrooms for the sausages.
My fantasy land has become a reality. No packaged supermarket product involved. Poaching the fresh sausage in the gravy made them velvety and tender. It's a good thing the house was empty when I ate this breakfast. My noises. Now I'm well fed I'm going to work on making my other fantasy a reality. But I can't write that here because it's R rated. Don't judge me.

wholelarderlove In 2007 after years of depression and anxiety attacks, I finally got a real diagnosis and subsequently began medication treatment for my condition (Lexapro 40mg). At the time I was a very busy, highly stressed person. I ate exclusively processed foods and take away. I drank heavily to 'soften' my condition.
Today after a years program to ween myself off the dosage (with GP guidance, General Practitioner not Gram Parsons) I can finally say I am free. Over the last many years I have made changes in my life to distance myself from the elements that caused me stress, I also eat real food, I no longer eat processed food that are loaded with sugars, preservatives, salt blah blah blah. I drink way less. WAY less. I don't smoke. And I exercise. I am not nutritionalist, doctor, quack or healing Belle. I'm a regular bloke that changed his habits and as a result am healthier. If only for myself, I have proven that living well, eating non processed organic stuff can improve mental state. So here is to my medication, thank you for saving me and providing a ladder whilst I got better. But also, fuck you, I never want to see you again. Love Ro.

wholelarderlove The most popular accounts on Instagram usually have lots of pretty pictures, some of round curvy bottoms and breasts in bikinis (they're the most popular). Some are popular because they have pretty photos of cabins, flower posys and carefully arranged vintage scenes. Some popular accounts are downright hilarious and some are simply owned by celebrities and therefore have millions of followers drawn by the power of celebrity. I am really amazed that I have some people visit here because I make an effort to show a reality that many people are not interested in, and share a message that can be annoying and confronting.
So many times I post an 'ugly' post like this weeks glyphosate graph and my followers drop. That's pretty funny right. But I have a message that even though is sometimes an ugly truth, needs to be shared. Like meat for example. Every time I make a reminder that something has to be killed to make that chicken sub I'll often offend someone in the process. Here is a gun. I use it to kill wild animals to feed my family. I could buy supermarket meat but I decided long ago not to support that system. Some people don't like guns. I like my guns, they're very useful tools. And when the zombies come I will be preparded. 🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻

wholelarderlove Each autumn I pick more than I can eat for the sole purpose of drying them for a later date. These are a wild species called the Wood Blewit. Right now they smell like chocolate. In winter and into spring I'll rehydrate them and make a risotto and when I eat it I'll make sexy noises because good food is sexy. 2d

wholelarderlove I have three lucky people booked in for this Saturday's 'GROW WITH RO'. They will be eating slow braised home raised goose. Cooked in Pinot and onions served on a creamy mash of autumn veg. You on the other hand will be eating salty crackers because your not coming to my awesome party.
Jokes aside. The point I'm making is that there are plenty of spots left of you keen to learn how to plant a winter veg garden. Link in profile.

Before anyone comments, yes I understand correlation is not causation. But I'd like to see people's medical and nutritionally based thoughts on the topic.

  •   wholelarderlove @onmattershuman damn. I was going to say that!!! 2d
  •   wholelarderlove @thistlebrook when I went to the doctor years ago he issued me with anti depressant and hyper tension medication. Great GP he told me to change elements in my lifestyle like salty foods and booze etc. even though I've lost a heap of weight the last visit he pragmatically told me to lose another 10kg. He's probably helped me more than anyone (apart from @hellokateberry) even though it's only been ten minute medical evaluations at a time over the last seven years. I often think about the medication as a stop gap. It kept me sane and my hyper tension under control whilst I worked on changing my lifestyle habits. I'm now off both meds. But it's been a shit fight to change my ways. The story is not so cool for most other people who instead of changing lifestyle choices they rely on medication long term. My ex father in law (nice bloke) but will not listen to reason and opts to take a plethora of medications daily instead of changing his lifestyle. It's all about choice. And that's what keeps the pharmaceutical companies coffers churning. Like the sugar industry and tobacco they rely on consumer choice to keep their business profitable. That's not a conspiracy, it's just good capitalism. 2d
  •   thistlebrook @wholelarderlove I wonder though, how many people make informed choices. You do a great job of waking them up and encouraging them to learn. I've been banging on about this stuff for sixteen years (while trying to fight my own battle with the pud) to mixed success. Tell you what, after the weekend I'm totally inspired to go harder and find new ways to cut off the capitalist bollocks. 2d
  •   thistlebrook @wholelarderlove Just picturing you smoking chorizos over a wad of unwanted $100's wearing a tin hat in place of your truckers. Mad indeed 2d
  •   wholelarderlove @thistlebrook don't blow my cover man. That's the real truth behind whole larder love. 2d
  •   oldmill_road I'm glad I checked in. Nice convo. 2d

wholelarderlove If Joel Salatin had an affair with Julia Child, the love child would be @tammois because she makes the tastiest ethical pork I've ever tasted.
Well actually that's a lie, I think there is a whole bunch of love children that produce ethical pork in Victoria. @thefarmerslarder @lovefromapigfarmer @greenvalefarm Who knows, there are probably even more offspring from this dream affair of Salatin and Child.

wholelarderlove Hello. Would you eat me? I would eat me. Or would I? Learn to find the edible wild mushrooms of the forest with me this Sunday in the gorgeous forests near Daylesford. We start at 10am. Mushroom hunt until lunch time, then I'll show you how to cook the mushrooms we find. We will sit around a warm campfire. I will bore you with my militant food philosophy. It's is an experience not many people get to have. It's fun and you learn stuff and eat delicious food. If only school was like this.
Remember, when the wild mushrooms finish, they finish until the following year. Only two mushroom workshops remaining. Link. Profile.

wholelarderlove Practical use #618. Hip wild mushroom carry bag. A few years ago a man we'll call 'Mr Poler' invented a small tarp able to be fastened with trail clips. I've used it in many situations. It's carried cold beer, fresh caught mountain trout, tubs of beard balm and was once used as an emergency toga. Today I found a fairy ring of my favorite mushroom but realizing I'd left my rustic artisan fair trade hand weaved basket at home, I turned once again to the trusty insulated tarp thing that Mr Poler gave me years ago. Thanks for keeping me wild Mr Poler @polerstuff 4d

wholelarderlove Last year I was invited to speak at an event in Atlanta, Georgia. The event was organized by @plywoodpeople Prior to my talk I spent some time with @warhorseworkshop
We connected over our love of TPS reports and Hank Williams. Mr Warhorse is oozing talent. He carved me out this gorgeous number. It's now a cover for my cooking notebook. I write recipes, doodle and record hilarious anecdotes, mostly about TPS reports. I'd like to formally acknowledge Mr Warhorse for his oozement of talent and suggest that if you find one day you're stuck on the side of the road, stranded and realize your life is lacking of carved leather goods, then call him. 1800 OOZE

wholelarderlove I wear many hats both literally and figuratively. I guess you could say I'm the house human. I cook. I clean. I wash clothes. I mop. I spend most of the day at home with my hair in curlers. One of my hats that I happily devote myself to is food provider. It's pretty rewarding. I grow food. I raise animals. I hunt. I gather. Here is some roosters born from our hens last spring. They taste like chicken. I've cut out the breasts for mince. The legs are currently braising in red wine and onion and the remaining carcus is roasting to make stock. We ate the hearts. We ate the livers. Scraps went to the dogs. And the manure the roosters and hens poop out, ends up as fertilizer for the vegetable garden. Circles. Cycles. Phases and stages. Many hats. Many hats. 4d

  •   lisanne977 A friend asked me for help with some older roosters - I now have one slowly bubbling away on the stove which I will make shredded chicken from and also stock. It already tastes awesome, it's going to be even better in the morning! 4d

wholelarderlove Sure is nice to be home. I have so much work to do. But I'm well invigorated. Might just be the endorphins post my morning run. I can run! Half an hour! Seven years ago I was a plump, unhealthy, food allergy, western illness human. Change is brilliant. Personal health, environmental health, community health. All achievable. Just takes effort and habitual change.
After another successful event of talking to people about food and lifestyle I'm recharged to continue the vocation. 🏻🏻🏻🏻🏻🐇🐓🐐🍋

wholelarderlove Finally got to watch @thatsugarfilm on a return flight today after speaking at @hamptonfestival about what's wrong with the conventional food system. This movie is really worth watching. Yes. Sugar has been demonized of late. And rightly so. Let's face it, most processed foods are making us crook. Really worth watching! 6d
  •   wholelarderlove @ruggedandfancy keep at it. 5d
  •   wholelarderlove @bea_loves that's a good one. ;-) 5d
  •   carlosfurnari @wholelarderlove concur. Also watched it on a flight last week. Pretty eye-opening. 5d
  •   onmattershuman @wholelarderlove that's quite a rare and good sign of health you realise. I've realised that if you have energy without the help of sugar or caffeine you're basically on a winning ticket. Both just fry the adrenals & deplete us of all minerals and without those little batteries we're quite fkd. 5d
  •   wholelarderlove @onmattershuman To be honest, I am just so glad that I got sick seven years ago and started making the progression to where I am today. If I told you the foods I used to eat you'd flip. I actually used to like them. Some of them I miss. Most of them I do not. And my wellbeing, well fuck! why didn't I do this earlier? 5d
  •   eleanor_est @mycoolbush can we watch this together? 5d
  •   carolinevelik I did the food styling on the book @wholelarderlove. Recipes are delicious! 5d
