whitleybc "Some refuse to believe the ever-increasing number of women who have accused Bill Cosby of raping them due to the idea that this is nothing more than a concerted effort to bring an iconic Black man down... This isn’t about racism so much as it is a lingering lassiez faire attitude many have about sexual assault... People will put their entertainment value ahead of a person’s humanity... Cosby is a Black man who has spent the last decade of his life condemning poor Black people [and positioned himself as a moralizer]... It is Bill Cosby who has long fancied himself pristine and above others. It is Bill Cosby who has used that public image to denigrate his people... Cosby may be a Black man, but as a man first, he’s long enjoyed the perks of patriarchy – the main culprit behind it taking decades for his reputation to be rightly challenged." http://thegrio.com/2014/11/22/bill-cosby-racism-sexism/.VHH8kDI_y90.twitter 16 women have come forth an y'all think it's fun and games?! FOH These women are 40-80 and still suffer from the psychological trauma. 1d
  •   mr_makin_moves Well just know that my family has known about this for years as a friend of the family took him to court over this exact same thing... 😐 And no, it's not an "I agree but" scenario at all. I specifically addressed which parts I agree/disagree with. It's not about preserving the reputation. That's silly. It's about acknowledging real contributions, just like we acknowledge that some pretty terrible things have happened that ultimately gave us the ability to freely have this conversation without facing persecution. Just wanted you to see a different perspective. 1d
  •   mr_makin_moves And now that I re-read your 1st comment I never said it's hypocrisy to call him out. I said it's hypocrisy to call him out and NOT call out OTHER people you see doing terrible things. And yeah those holidays do have something to do with the black community. It paved the way for slavery to be possible, which certainly affects black people... And truth be told, I have a friend of mine from High school who looked up to Bill Cosby, or "Dr. Huxtable" and actually became a doctor himself. But that's just one man... I don't know how many other black men he might have influenced. I just hope that nobody thinks it's okay to rape women. 1d
  •   whitleybc Bruh. Saying "Fuck bill Cosby" is not saying "fuck the Cosby show." But saying "oh wait! Remember the good he's done!" IS trying to shift the convo from the terrible shit he's done to land himself in this place. Your perspective is seeking to "preserve" or "remind" people that he's "not all bad" which serves to belittle the horrific terrorizing experiences he singlehandedly placed on these women. This isn't at all about his "good works." Stop making it about HIM. He is not the victim. HE does not need to be protected. This situations is about the rape. Not about his contributions. And no. People don't need to keep in mins his "contributions" when discussing his sexual misconduct. Period. @mr_makin_moves 1d
  •   mr_makin_moves Everything you just said in that last comment is exactly how I feel about Police in America. Yet people aren't coming together in droves to enact legislation that would cut back on police brutality and abuse of power... And that's why I declare hypocrisy. Where's the outrage about that OUTSIDE of the black community? Also, I just read the grio article. Going to read the Bill Cosby legacy article now. 1d
  •   whitleybc You can't gauge hypocrisy like that. These are isolated events separate from each other. This is about Bill and these women right now. No one else. If it worked like that people would have to "call out" hundreds of other famous people in the same breath. Again this isn't about anyone else right now. And OF COURSE those holidays affected black people, but you said "we" celebrate them. Idk any black people who celebrate genocide. America as a whole celebrates and remembers those holidays fondly, but I'm pretty sure minorities don't see it the same way the history textbooks write it. So when you say "we" celebrate those holidays... No. Not in the same context. The way that America uplifts and upholds genocide doesn't have anything to do w the black community outside of how what those holidays represent affected us negatively. Outrage at Bill Cosby for rape doesn't mean people aren't outraged by other injustices in the world. What kind of logic is that?? People can be mad at multiple different things.. None of which have anything to do with the other. Anyway.... Happy reading. Have a great day.@mr_makin_moves 1d
  •   mr_makin_moves Just read the Washington Post article... and your last comment. I view that huge list of isolated events to be pretty significant. At what point do we as a country decide to enact legislation that could put an end to most of those isolated events? I view the police force here in America as a whole unit. They all work together. They all took the same oath. It's about them as a whole just like these events we're discussing are about Bill. And yeah like you said people would have to call out hundreds of other famous people in the same breath which I think they should. If you see something, say something. I read the comments on that article of confessions too. They are definitely calling out the other famous people and rightfully so. 1d
  •   mr_makin_moves (Sorry I had to start another comment because the screen wouldn't adjust for me to view what I was typing) I know waaaaaaaay too many black people who celebrate thanksgiving. It doesn't matter what context. If we call it thanksgiving, then we're celebrating thanksgiving. And I honestly can't be too upset for people not calling out injustices throughout the world. The world can be a very big place when it comes to that. But in America, if you don't call out injustices that's what upsets me. And if people are so outraged about other stuff then why aren't they so vocal about it like they are about Bill? What are they afraid of? To me that's illogical. But yeah thanks for the article. 'Twas a good read 1d
  •   whitleybc Omg. No. Just.... No. Yes as a country we need to address the issue as a whole. But that doesn't mean we DONT call out individuals. I don't understand what is so hard to grasp about that. Bill Cosby is a not shit nigga... The majority of niggas aren't shit. You gotta deal w it on a case by case basis to get individuals.... WHILE working on collective legislation which is SEPARATE. It's not that hard to understand. We can list a thousand celebrities who rape/assault/molest.... And what? What does talking ab these other ones have to do with Cosby?? So he's one of a million..... Does that mean we should shut up?? You wanna talk ab the justice system?? Guess what? You can't enter evidence in a trial that isn't relevant to the SPECIFIC case. We are SPECIFICALLY talking about Bill Cosby and his dirty laundry. Therefore what R.Kelly or Woody Allen or Ceelo have done, doesn't have a place in the specific Cosby discussion. If we're having a discussion on male celebrities who abuse their fame, power, fortune to prey on women, then yeah we include all of them. Seriously please don't comment on this again. I'm done w this convo. @mr_makin_moves 1d

whitleybc Sick of this tired as theme. Just because a black woman is the protagonist of a show does not necessarily mean it's a positive and uplifting role. Having a "strong black woman" at the beck and call of 2 powerful white men sends the wrong message to young black girls, esp when these white men are romantically/sexually glorified despite their dismissive, sexist, patriarchal and abusive tendencies. Presentation DOES matter. Essentially these shows put forth the idea that no matter how strong/powerful you are, you 1.Need a man 2. White men are the only option. These shows are great TV dramas, but I would never let my child watch this bullshit. #DoBetterShonda 4d
